Tranny swap

I've got a 95 F150 with a 5.0 and a 4r70w that wont go into forward gears. It's got reverse, just not drive. I've also got a 96 F250 with a 5.8 and a E40D that has been sitting for a while but does run and drive. The 150 is my daily driver though. Will the E40D from the 250 fit into the 150? And work without damaging anything else? I should have mentioned the 250 is an extended cab long bed and the 150 is a single cab short bed. Both are 2 wheel drive. Thanks for any and all help and advice!

No, I don't believe so. I'm not an expert on automatics, but from what I understand, the PCM (engine computer) controls the shifting and the 4R70W and E4OD are handled differently. Different wiring harnesses/plugs. Not sure if you could get away with swapping the 5.8 computer to run a 5.0/E4OD combo. Others might know.

It will bolt up, not sure about the computer compatibility, but you will need the correct length driveshaft

I'm betting your '95 5.0 is MAF, and the 5.8 is Speed Density. So to swap transmissions you'll need to swap wiring, PCM, driveshaft, and flexplate. Lots of work.

Try and find a used 4R70W or get it rebuilt.

The E4OD will physically fit but as others have noted the computer already in the truck will not run an E4OD. The 1995 truck is MAF and the 1996 F250 is most likely Speed Density so you cannot use that computer in the 1995. You could source a 1995 MAF computer from a Bronco or F150 with an E4OD then move some of the wires on the PCM connector. You also need a flex for a 5L engine/E4OD combination as well.

Exactly as he said. If you can find a PCM with the E4OD MAF combo, it should work. Be sure to get the correct flexplate because using the wrong one will trash the E4OD in seconds.
