This is my first post here and I am not really accustomed to these forums so please forgive me if I am not following proper procedures. This will be a long post so thanks in advance for taking the time to read. Here is my dilemma. I am in the middle of trying to swap transmission and transfer case from a 1993 F-150 4x4 with 302 and E4OD into a 1995 F-150(non 4x4) with 302 and 4R70W, apparently I should have done some more research before I started. The 95 is a family truck, my wife's grandparents bought it new, so I don't want to sell it. My idiot ex brother-in-law had driven the 95 through a ditch and trashed the front suspension and then the transmission lost all forward gears, probably because the pan was smashed in and the screen all busted up. So, since I had a 93 parts truck I figured I would swap over parts and get the 95 back on the road with 4x4 to boot. I swapped in the front axle no problem then started on the transmission. I checked for bolt in compatibility before I started but it never occurred to me that the transmissions were different and the electronics might not be the same. If my research is correct at this time I can swap the computer and wiring harness from the 93 into the 95 to make the trans work but I will then have to swap from MAF to speed density so the motor will run. Also It looks like the 95 has a different firing order so I will also have to swap in the camshaft from the 1993. I know that I could sell everything and buy another truck but I don't want to because of the sentimental value. Is there any other way to make this work without spending a bunch of money? Can I maybe buy a computer for a 95 302, 5.0?
Please Help.
1995 model year F150s with 5L/302 engines came with both transmissions. Easiest swap is getting a computer for a 1995 F150/Bronco with an E4OD and MAF. I would also suggest to swap in a 1995 or later solenoid pack into the 1993 E4OD donor transmission. There were connector differences starting in 1994 and in 1995 Ford changed a few things electrically. The MLPS on the passenger side of the transmission may need to be changed as well due to connector differences. I do not think the MLPS on the 4R70W will work on the E4OD. Could be wrong.
Thanks for the help. That would be great. I have the trans harness from the 93. Maybe i can splice in the right connector? I know that 2 out of 3 connectors on the transnissions are the same.
Anybody have info as to what ECU he should be looking for? Part number or tune codes or what-have-you? I do believe a 5.8L ECU would work, correct me if I am wrong.
Will a computer from a 1995 5.8 4x4 work for me? Dont all 5.8's have the e4od?
Yes, all of the 5.8L trucks got the E4OD auto trans. A 1995 F150/Bronco should be MAF, but it may be a mid-year change so you have to verify it is a MAF computer. Many, if not all, of the 1995 5.8L MAF F150/Broncos have two O2 sensors. So now there is another variable to work with. The quick and dirty would be to jumper the single O2 sensor to both signal inputs at the computer.
Then I seem to to remember the EGR feedback was DPFE (flow based) versus EVP (positional) on the MAF 5.8L engine. Not a problem if the 5L engine is the same EGR feedback.
So the 5.8L computer (PCM) will work on your 5L, but some more variables to deal with.
5.8L's were still SD in 95' as far as I know. Went MAF in 96' on the half tons, but that came with eec-v/obdii. Remained SD on the HD's. So in short, to the best of my knowledge, no the 5.8L PCM won't work (easily).
When searching for one remove the 12A650 from the search. That is common to all Ford PCMs and skews the results. Example use F4TF-AAA to search for a HOG0 catch code PCM (computer).
