Picked up my first dentside on Saturday. Been looking for about half a year.
1977 F150 Custom 2WD
351M 4spd standard
Has some rust on the box panels and one cab corner will need some work, all in all, pretty solid. Will need both floor pans
Will need a swap or rebuild in the near future as I am sure it is the original engine
I like the pinstriping! That paint looks in decent enough shape, I’m sure it would buff out perfect. Looks like a good solid truck to start working on.
Been working on some of the safety stuff first, lights and mirrors. Looking to buff out a section on Sunday, will see how that turns out.\
Signal lights are very slow with the intermittent flashing. Is that normal?
It has cab lights, wondering if those were wired into the headlight switch or separate? I found one broken toggle switch that i will replace and see if that powers them.
Nice ride, looks like the the paint buffed out very well. Yes the turning signals flash fairly slow on these old trucks. And yes it the cab lights are OEM they should be wired into the headlight switch. But if added later on of by the PO the norm is to tap the headlight switch wiring or just add a toggle. The position of that switch/light bracket makes for a great shin scraper. The dome light wiring normally goes down the dvrs side A pillar.
Looks like a solid truck! Paint and pinstriping looks so be in good condition considering the age. This project will go nicely! Are you planning on fully restoring it over time or just fix up & drive around truck? Good luck!
I don't have the place to do a frame off resto but want to do as much as I can to preserve it until a time I can do the full resto. Will be looking into whether i need a full rebuild on the powertrain or just a clean up, runs awesome but has so leakage, I do have a place to weld and paint so will focus on the body after the powertrain.
My apologies, honest I do know how to use the search function, but hard to do when I don't know what the part is called. I have a 351m standard in this truck. What is the coffee can looking piece right beside the battery, what's its purpose? I took a picture but too blurry, will try again when i get home
The canister is a vaccum reserve tank. It makes sure there is always an adequate vaccum supply available when the motor is running at lower RPM's to perform tasks like operating the brake power brake booster.
Thanks NM76F150 and RedRoad, just haven't seen before, but seems like it has its uses! Just looks like someone painted a Folgers can and ran some lines to it!
