Thanks NM76F150 and RedRoad, just haven't seen before, but seems like it has its uses! Just looks like someone painted a Folgers can and ran some lines to it!
You can get a fancy version but their function is the same.
Ran a compression test on the weekend. Every time I moved on to the next cylinder it was higher than the last. Any possible reasons? Engine cooling down? Also truck runs very rich, can smell it all through the parkade. Most likely time for a carb rebuild or new?

There are many reasons for the smell of unburned gasoline none of them good. Check to make sure there is spark to all 8 cylinders. Don't let this slide get to the bottom of the smell. The compression numbers aren't bad. I'd like to see the grouping closer but that may be because it really hasn't been run regularly for some time.
Beautiful truck Frosty. The paint looks like it will come back nicely with a little elbow grease.
I should definitely run a compression check on my motor but I would be happy with those numbers.
The numbers all appear to be within 10% of each other, and I believe that is the old standard.
Cool cab roof lights...I always liked the way they look on the road at night.
Keep up the good work and please keep posting your progress.
Pulled the carb out for a rebuild. Man is it dirty. The underside is worse. It’s apart and soaking now. Carbon deposits dropping off the bottom like pieces of chalk.
Stumped with my carb. It starts up fine but for the most part only runs for a few second. Once it kept going but it was as close to stalling as can get without stalling.
it still runs very rich. Checked the float and it looks at the proper level, same as I measured during rebuild.
one thing I did notice is that the choke plate seems to always return to the open position.
New filter was installed, and wasnt thinking fuel pump as I can rev it so it does get fuel. With the choke staying open I was thinking the choke pull down, either faulty or a vacuum leak.
So its been awhile. The Carburetor is fighting me every step of the way. Removed and disassembled. There was a lot of carbon build up especially around the EGR valve.
Once I installed it would run for a couple seconds then just die out. Put a vacuum source to the Choke pull down and had clear flow. Replaced and tried again on the weekend. Now it fires up great. Revs nice and smooth but refuses to idle. Will have to tackle that next, strange as I did not adjust anything with the idle screws during the rebuild. Also It may be leaking from where the throttle rod leaves the bowl and attaches to the choke cam. If that is the fact, does that mean I need to replace the carb or is that fixable? Definitely didnt appear to be any parts for that in the rebuild kit.
Actually did both, cleaned the nasty stuff with carb cleaner then soaked the whole carb in Simple green. Also when I reassembled I used canned air to spray any residual moisture out of the jets.
Been slowly working on the truck, will update with pictures soon.
Even though I bought most of the replacement panels I had to relegate myself to admitting the obvious. It would be a better option to find a donor bed.
So after an entire 6 days I came across this one for a sweet deal. Now to find somewhere to do the swap as I only have a parkade stall to work out of.
The bed floor and cross members are solid. Its a single tank and older than my 77 but it can work. Also the bumper is in way better shape than mine.
