I spoke to a friend of mine who was assigned to the Hate Crimes division. Being Asian myself, I was curious and had to ask, "what constitutes a hate crime, and how do you differentiate that from just crime?" Without complicating his caseload, or asking him about any case which might be on his desk, so that he could answer, I asked him about the incident in NY. Here's a guy who killed his own mother. Maybe he's just crazy and shouldn't have been on the street to begin with. Sure, he said some things. But this guy was a nut. He could have just as easily assaulted anybody of any race, and said some things. I'm probably wrong about the legal definition of hate crime. You have a convicted murderer, caught on tape, viciously battering an innocent victim. You already got him for all sorts assault & battery, intent to commit grievous bodily harm, etc, etc. What about the "hate crimes enhancement"? In my mind, there has to be more. Like a group of people who gather to plan attacks on race specific targets. Or even 1 person, who is purposely victimizing people solely on their race, to satisfy his own hatred. My friend said, "let's hope, for the victims, that you don't get selected for jury duty".
We don't know all the details. All that we know is that he killed his own mother. Who am I to jump at conclusions? I wouldn't want to step on the wrong politically correct toes. Maybe he wasn't hugged enough as a child. Perhaps he is part of an underserved demographic. He gets a 2nd chance in life. The victim doesn't get a do-over. Remember that it's never the accused who is at fault. We can't even call him a convict, criminal, suspect, or anything else which actually makes him sound guilty. It could be the cops' fault. If they didn't make their careers on oppressing him personally, then he wouldn't have a criminal record at all. Sometimes it's the victim's fault. If the victims just stay home, and don't go out in public, they wouldn't be victims, and you wouldn't be able to call this guy the perp.
So the SF Board of Education Commissioner at the center of the scandal has filed a lawsuit against the school district, and against the other commissioners who are asking her to resign.
Collins' lawsuit cites emotional distress, violations to her free speech and retaliation among other complaints.
Maybe the Chinese community should pay her punitive damages. After all, it's their fault. It was the Chinese children who scored well enough, that they became the majority of the student body at The City's only merit based admission school. What right did they have to work so hard to achieve such high scores? Next, we need this woman on the UC Board of Regents. Then she can tour Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Cambridge.......and every school which has a merit based admissions system. Getting into a good school, to secure a better future, should not be biased towards hard work and strong ethics. It's an entitlement. Anyone born into the correct circumstances, should be guaranteed admission, despite the fact that they did nothing to earn it.
Then we can send her to systemically reshape the NBA. A starting team of 5, must equally represent society. So we have to have 1 player of each race, with no more than 1.5 player representing any race, and at least 2 women, or at least you have to identify as a woman. The hoop needs to be lowered. And there has to be a sliding scale for height. You can't have 5 men, all over 6'5". At least 2 players must be of medium height, 5'8", and under. And anyone over 6' needs to play in socks only, no shoes, so that they don't gain an unfair advantage with traction. No more $20 million dollar players. All players make the same salary. And endorsement contracts pay into a pool, for all league members to share equally. If Nike only wants certain players, then everybody shares in the wealth.
