So, my exaust from my turbo is creating massive smoking inside the cab, the insulation inside the firewall is too hot too touch. Who makes a lace up insulated boot that I can slide down behind it to stop this?
Do you have soot at the turbo area? Might be a massive uppipe leak. A set of cheap SS bellowed uppipes would take care of that.
I replaced the up pipes and sealed everything before this trip. It was doing this before. My downpipe is perhaps an inch from the firewall. I’m 400 miles into a 7000 mile trip and I can’t do all of it with the windows down. Every turbo diesel I work on in boats has a insulated sleeve around this part of the pipe, usually with hooks and laced together with ss tie wire.
I will call some diesel shops tomorrow and see if anyone has one I can work in there.
I agree with the others here , something is wrong causing that much heat, I see your just starting a long trip going to be a bugger to fix out on the road! be careful and good luck!
Do you have good boost? Turbo spooling up ok? Pulling an RV? You shouldn't have enough heat coming off that pipe to burn the insulation on the inside of the cab like that.

runs like a raped ape, hauling a heavy slide in camper. This happened last trip, and it was running empty, so not load related. Waste gate?

Others have installed a blanket on the turbo but I have no info on that aspect.
I still feel something is amiss if you are seeing that much heat in the cab.
Like Jason, I installed some heat wrap on my up-pipes and down pipe when I installed the T4 kit. From what we have seen, the turbo blankets are not a good idea unless you get the $300+ version and even then may be somewhat underwhelming. I am not an engineer, so take my thoughts and advice for what they are.
Like Jason again, I feel something is not right, but everything we are thinking of or mentioning is coming up as a dead lead.
