So, the massive exhaust leak is between the up pipe manifold and the turbo. I was very careful when I installed my turbo, and left the pedestal bolts loose to help align this mating surface. I can't see any gasket was ever in here, it would need to be very hi temp if it were.
Not just loose pedestal bolts, when you align the turbo to pedestal you want the uppipes nearly completely unbolted from the exhaust manifold. Leave those loose till the turbo is mounted, then crawl under and tighten up the manifolds to uppipes. At least with bellowed uppipes, the original uppipes with the donuts will probably leak doing it that way, granted they should also bolt up and align perfectly without needing to undo them below
There is no gasket at that location. It must not have been properly seated for some reason. Watch the small pin. I have heard of some people having issues with the locating pin on the cheaper pipes. That was not my experience however as both cheap sets I’ve installed fit well.
SSJ will probably be along with his words of wisdom for the best install method. He’s done tons of these.
edit: Wes added his words of wisdom while I was typing.

good tip, thanks, I'll go pull my inner fender on the passenger side
[QUOTE=bewildered 7.3;19760865]I do not, I wish I did.
I also wormed a hand back there and I can not move the waste gate rod. Since it is on a vacuum pot??? I think I should be able to push it toward that pot with minimal effort??? I will post a pic, soon as I get it off my phone.
That pot uses pressure, not vacuum the rod will not move towards driver side and should take some serious effort to move towards the passenger side.

who knows a good source for these turbo flange clamps? I'm convinced that the old ones are stretched a bit. Even if they are not, it's not that much fun to keep ripping this apart, why not replace them?
Riff Raff has them. Finally replaced mine after it was mangled from 3rd reinstall. Think the first time did the most "damage" to it tho. They came off way easier after I had lightly coated them with anti seize on previous removals.
Another tip for clamp longevity is smack the collector, not the clamp.
Getting the collector to align properly with the baby's butt is a giant PITA for everybody, and often done wrong. Get some pics next time you are in there.
Bad clamp alignment above Sweet sweet butt clampage
