I have cheap Chinese Titanium Lava fiber turbo blanket.
Has not melted in 1.5 years..
44psi boost with modified stock turbo so has taken some heat. And still good to go with my Holset.

Sometimes we get lucky... My thoughts on a turbo blanket in order to resolve his heat issues were based on recent posts from other FTE'rs in the link below. Also from my own research while building my T4 parts list.

Strap a cheap phone under the hood, hit record and go pull a steep grade. Might shed some more light on the subject.

It sounds like you still have a massive leak at your uppipes. I realize that you replaced them already, but did you ensure they sealed well and aren't leaking? A lot of guys end up having to pull/push/prod/shimmy the pipes and clamps to get them to line up and seal properly. It is usually a struggle and often referred to as the hardest part of the job.

This is what I was getting at earlier.

50hp tune, but had no tune on it in November and did same thing. My down pipe is actually pressing against the cardboard on the soundproofing in front of the firewall. Someone told me today that the firewall was different from 2000-2003, this may be the problem? I made it 400 miles into a 7k trip, and turned back, will be home tomorrow, and might be truck shopping.

Sir, I was reminded about your "FrankenTruck" from your other thread and I apologize for letting this detail go. Due to the strange techniques the previous owner had, you may have to perform a unique fix action in order to get back on the road. The problems, symptoms and corrective steps we have recommended are for a truck that still has a mostly stock or at least somewhat stock shape in the exhaust components and body, where you may not have that. Who knows what the previous owner did to get the truck going and sold.

Get up and start looking around, take some pictures and we will help you formulate a plan to get it going and stay cool. You may have to pound a recess into the DP and wrap it with heat wrap, but that is me wishful thinking and hoping you have a quick and easy fix action.

Then, you can get back on the road if everything else is running as it should and as you have indicated it does.

Do you have a pyrometer in the truck? If so, what are your temps looking like? It is very odd to have that much heat making its way to the cab.

He has direct heat transfer as the DP is AGAINST the firewall.

That would be news to me.....there are some very minor differences in a 2004 vs a 2001 but nothing that would affect the DP area.

I do not, I wish I did.

Updated, so now I have it home, and am snooping around. I see 2 things, my down pipe is not clamped as tightly to the turbo as I thought, I can move it a bit from under the truck. I see where the outer soundproof/heat shield is burned away, all the way to the metal, directly behind my turbo, right behind my waste gate linkage. I also wormed a hand back there and I can not move the waste gate rod. Since it is on a vacuum pot??? I think I should be able to push it toward that pot with minimal effort??? I will post a pic, soon as I get it off my phone.

The soot on the firewall, if new, tells us that you have a MASSIVE exhaust leak.
