it is right next to the fuel pressure regulator on the passenger side on my 89 f150 4.9l. it is not the air intake temp sensor. that sensor is just a bit further towards the front of the engine
in the same general area.

bad picture, what is it screwed into? Clean off the wires and see what colors they are and check the wiring diagram.
yes, i dont know the temp exactly, but usually on really hot summer days, you will hear it come on after the truck has been shut off a couple minutes.
Dont make the mistake like i did with my last 89 and throw the system away. youll wind up with a hot start like youve advanced your timing too much and sometimes it wont turn over fast enough to start. your stuck popping the hood and waiting for things too cool off enough to start..
My understanding is that its vapor lock.
I also think 92-up they went to in tank only fuel pump and raised the pressure to 60? psi which eliminated the need for the fan.
Interesting thanks. I tested my fuel pressure recently it was 55psi key on engine off. About 47psi at idle. Is it possible to upgrade my truck to where I could delete this fan/system? I assume I would have to upgrade my injectors correct?
The fan system was added to keep the residual heat in the exhaust manifolds from cooking the injectors when the engine is shut off, where it no longer has the benefit of fuel flow for cooling. I advise against removing the fan system.
