Sensor what is it.

1989 f350 460 efi there is a sensor that sets in the intake manifold. It is measuring some thing in the air flow in the intake is this an Air Temp sensor or what? it sits in the vicinity if the water temp sensor.

You're probably thinking of the ACT sensor, Air Charge Temperature.

Could also be your MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor.

The MAP sensor is up on the firewall, not on the intake manifold.

How can the MAP sensor determine the pressure in the intake manifold if it is on the firewall? That is what a MAP sensor does- measure air pressure in the intake manifold.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Dec-01 AT 01:51 PM (EST)]The MAP measures the difference between the manifold pressure and the atmospheric pressure. There is a rubber tube running from the manifold to the MAP sensor. And let me tell you, if this tube comes off or gets a hole in it, the ECM/PCM will richen the engine beyond belief. Try pulling it off.
