The doors will make a difference in road noise more so than engine noise. The roof deadner might have helped some with highway wind noise, but it was not near as noticeable as the doors were

You can barely hear the engine noise in my truck, that is how much I have done. Road noise reduction is what I am looking for now, door work should help that, maybe thicker windows from 08+ as well.
The 2016+oem acoustic windshield helped a lot as well. Also need to get a center shoulder velt in the reat seat for kids.

Off topic, sorry, back on track...

So, in summary... What have we learned from this "not another oil thread" thread?
  • Triax 5w40 and 15w40 are virtually the same with 5w40 being slightly better due to the base component
  • Volvo VDS-4.5 specification is considered the "benchmark" by Triax and what they see as the prime specification go look for
  • Wes444 is very limber
  • Several other synthetic oils meet the Volvo VDS-4.5 specification
  • jstihl finally has a good oil that he is switching all his motors to based on real world results
  • Rotella T6 is good oil and could be a substitute for those not wanting to mail order Triax
  • Sound deadener on doors is most effective
  • What characteristics Molybdenum and boron add to an oil
  • A higher viscosity index is better
  • Synthetic HD oils are expensive and sometimes difficult to find

George is setting us up as a dealer. I'm told we'll be able to drop ship straight from Triax to our customers.

If Triax adds the same value to oil that Opti-lube does to D2, I'm on board!

Great news and your efforts are appreciated!

Did you receive an estimated timeline on when BDP would become an authorized dealer and able to process transactions?

George said we should be set up sometime tomorrow. Our dealer portal sounds like a 2021 goal, but I think we can have George quote orders for our customers and ship directly as needed. The markets are very volatile currently and the base oil prices are expected to fluctuate (We are expecting a 40% price increase with aluminum). A quote works best for all parties, but will introduce a small time delay in processing. The larger the quantity ordered the more value you'll receive.

"One thing to keep in mind is that we are a manufacturer so our floor inventory varies greatly from week to week. Some orders may take a week or two to ship, depending on the production and blending schedule."

I will be giving the 5w40 a go as well after Byron's raving review. I tried the 15w40 and it was decent, and from what they say their 5w40 add pack is even better.

I reached out to Triax for some info regarding their approval process, and the fact their data sheet for the 5w-40 shows 800ish ppm Zinc/Phos, yet claim the Ford approval. I'm sure this info has been covered before, but it never hurts to get the info from the source periodically to make sure it's up to date. George is the man.

Also, the link lets you compare overall formulations, such as CJ4, CK4, etc. The Volvo standard is pretty interesting though. I ran the 15w40 Fleet Ultra from Triax and didn't notice much, though that may be due to the AC injectors not being worn. I may give the 5w40 Fleet Supreme a try after my next oil change.

Hello,

I am curious about the specs for your 5w-40/15w-40 oils in a 7.3 powerstroke application. I see that the Fleet Ultra claims the Ford spec, but Ford does not have that on their approved oils listing as of this year. I know Ford is concerned about the lack of Phos/Zinc in the oil, and the 5w-40 Fleet supreme shows under 1000ppm for both zinc and phos.

What is in the additive package that makes up for the lack of zinc/phos? Are the Triax oils going to show up on the Ford approved oil listing any time in the future?

Hello Jake,

Our Fleet Supreme and Fleet Ultra oils perform absolutely superbly in all powerstroke applications. The data on the zinc at 800 is old, the current zinc level is about 1100-1200, also about 150 ppm molybdenum carbonate and 400 + ppm nanoboron. Those last two are what significantly changes the performance and makes our oils perform the way they do. This is a significantly boosted and improved additive pack vs anything else on the market. Hands down no competition.

Claiming a spec is normal, we basically are guaranteeing specification. In this case, the Ford Spec requires a API CJ-4 / CK-4 compliant oil. That's it. Nothing special about it. The ford specs are basically clones of the API Specs, no difference.

To get approved by Ford one needs two things:
  1. Use a standard, unmodified additive pack, which is readily available for purchase on the market. Almost everyone uses one of 3 additive packs (Shell, chevron, mobil, shaffers, amsoil etc)
  2. Pay Ford a "license" fee of 500K USD one time and then a % of every gallon of oil you make with their approval on it. If you want Ford to license your own additive pack, you need to pay them over 1 million USD fee + % of every gallon made. As a manufacturer you become a permanent cash cow for Ford.
Needless to say we are not going to be doing this. Not ever. We have modified our additive packs to offer substantially improved parameters on every level (no, Ford doesn't care). Better oxidation, better frictional properties, etc. Basically our oils are like a Hennessey Mustang vs a stock Mustang. Some people want that stock car, most do not however, when given a choice.

We do have a great many API licensed products, it took 5 years to get the approvals because they are all modified.

Also - for your reference, look here: https://online.lubrizol.com/relperftool/hd.html - this will give you a good idea of what the specs are and the level of protection for each. The absolute best diesel HD spec, with the highest required protection level is the Volvo VDS 4.5. You can never go wrong with an oil that meets this for any Powerstroke.

Maybe I rambled too much but I hope it helps you.

Thank you

We can do drop ship orders if they are of reasonable size, basically 4-5 pails per order. Once the dealer portal is up with the drop ship functionality, the warehouse staff can do it automatically as orders get processed. Until then they can't do things like 1 pail. They are currently getting the staff in place for this and if the platform functions correctly, they should be up and running with this service by March 1st.

Did he happen to mention anything about the 4 gallon packs? These seem to be non-existent in the 5w40 anymore.

@Bitterroot Diesel , are you able to make the prices of the 4 - 1 gallon boxes public or is this something that we should address to you via PM or phone call? I realize that the prices will change and fluctuate a bit, so perhaps stating the current price here is not the right way to go. Based on what jstihl has told us about the oil and his experience, I am willing to give it a shot for 5000 miles.

Are you planning to list the Triax on your site in the future similar to how you list the Opti-Lube products?

What is the best way to order some Triax 5w40 (not a 5 gallon bucket, I am not coordinated enough) through BDP prior to March 1st?

Yes, best to do one on one quotes so we can get the current price. I have an email out asking for smallest qty on the 4-1 gallon boxes.
