I could not find a date code that I could decipher on my bucket of Triax.

It's supposed to get down to 14*F by Thursday over here - hope to try a cold start unplugged, and see if the loping is gone with 5W-40 fleet surpreme. My noise tests with the Decibel X app on my phone were inconclusive. My old ears don't notice a significant difference in noise from the 7.3. If the loping is minimal to non-existent, and the next oil analysis is good, I think the switch will have been worth it.

I was lucky enough to secure 4x gallons of Triax Fleet Supreme 15w40 and 1.5 gallons of Triax Fleet Supreme 5w40 from a local source. Since no shipping was charged and the oil was no longer preferred by the local source, it was deeply discounted. I tried to arrange for pails at first, but the customer service representative at 1-800-REN-TWES said that they were on travel restrictions because of someone named COVID. Strange... I thought they were a nationwide service...

I have 1.5 gallons of Rotella T6 left in my stockpile and will blend the Triax Fleet Supreme 5w40 1.5 gallons in and purchase another gallon of T6 somewhere. It is available a lot of places, unlike the Triax. Places like Home Depot, Lowes, fuel stops, Wal-Mart, any parts store, etc. I don't have any issues with blending the T6 and Fleet Supreme as they are both 5w40 and have very similar certifications across the board. On that note, I don't expect any noticeable changes when going to the Triax oil, but I am optimistic and hopeful for a noticeable change. I will NOT be using a decibel meter from a free phone app or an expensive recording studio device, I will only be using my "butt dyno" and accessories "ear-o-meter" and "idle-o-meter".

Although, I do NOT plan to provide an initial impression/review upon pouring the Triax 5w40 or 15w40 into the engine as comparing a "dirty" oil to a "clean" oil would provide inconclusive observations and inaccurate parameters, in my opinion anyway.

We have a 7,500 - 15,000 mile trip planned towing the 5th wheel this summer and since we will be staying in TX, I may try to stop by the Triax manufacturing plant if COVID restrictions are loosened. I don't suspect they will be by then based on the current plans of the administration, but we can be surprised at times. The Triax Fleet Supreme 15w40 will have a good run in the truck since we will be crossing and/or staying in WY, CO, NM, AZ, TX, ID, WA, OR, MT, NV, etc...

In the end though, I suspect I will land squarely on TSC Travelers 15w40 for a few reasons...
 • Cost vs. benefit when compared to Rotella T6 and/or Triax 5w40 or 15w40
 • By Triax own words the Volvo VDS 4.5 is the gold standard or benchmark. All three products (Rotella T6, Triax and TSC) meet or exceed the Volvo VDS 4.5 certification. (See images below)
 • Several FTE'rs that I trust run and have run TSC 15w40 for many years with great results and good UOA's
 • When looking at the elemental analysis between the three oil choices, they are not that different and each are certified by Volvo VDS 4.5, as stated earlier
 • TSC is available at stores nationwide, or shipped to stores nationwide at no charge
 • TSC is far cheaper than Triax or Rotella and goes on sale often and can have a veterans discount applied on top of the sale price on Veteran's Day

Oh I am all for that, too bad its only February. I also ordered Triax 5w-40, arriving tomorrow. First oil change in this truck so I have nothing to compare it to, but interested to see what your fancy ear-o-meter tells you during your glorious trip.
yikes John. Asked your neighbor to mow their yard?
Wes, he is the biggest Douchebag! He’s constantly calling the Fire Department on the neighbors for having a small bon fire at night because his windows were open and he can hear them talking. The FD told him the next time they get a call from him he’s getting a citation for wasting resources. He’s called the sheriff for the neighbor’s kid coming on his property for a soccer ball!
He called the sheriff on me, because I was hooking up the 5er and left the truck running and the fan in his window was pulling the exhaust in his house. Deputies came, apparently he had quite the story of violent threats so they sent 4 Deputies, I personally knew 2 of them!
His story fell apart very quickly, because an elderly neighbor I regularly help lives across the street, she has cameras and told one of the Deputies she had camera footage and asked if that would help? They proved his story was BS apparently he told them I was blanketing his house in thick black smoke and violently threatened him when he came outside to politely ask me to stop...

He got handcuffed put in the squad and cited for false reporting unfortunately despite offers of donuts for life they said it wasn’t not an Arrestable offense. They did put the fear of god in him though AND he did have to go to court....seriously wanted to be there for that! Honestly, I’d slit his throat wipe the knife off and make a samwich with it then sleep like a baby!

Good fences make good neighbors.....as well as the occasional warning shot.

What's the service charge for Wes? I'm behind apparently.

I would highly advise AGAINST firing a warning shot at a troubled neighbor! For several reasons to include but not limited to...
.
 • The elderly neighbor across the street with cameras would prove that you broke the law
 • We already have enough problems with 2A rights being infringed upon
 • It is illegal to fire a weapon in an area such as that one unless it is a life or death situation
 • Some states consider a warning shot to be an act of aggression
 • That bullet has to land somewhere and in a housing subdivision like that, it could cause damage or harm to someone or something
 • A random/unwarranted gunshot in a neighborhood like that would most definitely put the weapon holder in the back of a police/sheriff car
 • Weapon control is something that is taught and learned where as weapon carelessness is a sure sign of someone unfamiliar with them
 • Why waste the ammunition in a shortage of ammunition
 • The person you are trying to "scare" will win, no doubt about that.
 • EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING we say, write or do online is there FOREVER. If you think deleting a video or a comment is a way to cover your tracks, you are sorely mistaken. Each time something like this is written, the author better be sure they can explain themselves in an interview. Be it with law enforcement or a potential employer. Some of the CSI and CIA show stuff is BS, but some of it is real...
In most situations where a weapon is required to defend life, a warning shot is absolutely the wrong action.

The list goes on and on...

Fences on the other hand are good for borders of all sorts... Yards, countries, military installations, Wal-Mart, etc...

Well so far, to add something to my thread that actually has to do with the title LOL....It has gotten COLD here in Texas with a Winter Storm Warning to come with it. Yesterday it was 19* and the truck had sat for two days without being plugged in. Here is what I noticed on start-up. While she does turn a little faster (nothing crazy like a 6.7 starter swap), the bigger thing was that she fired up quick and immediately sounds like she has been plugged in. She never stumbled before, but it wasn't quite as warm sounding. Hard to explain, but this is just to add to my "impressions". The cold is always the real test. My GPs are new and truck is running great, but this oil has seemed to help in the areas where it is supposed to. I'll am looking forward to a UOA once I get a good 5k miles on her.

John @Colorado350 sent me a video of his truck starting in 9* weather. It fired right up and sounded pretty darn good for a 20 year old dinosaur diesel. I'll keep using this oil as long as it available and doesn't get more expensive, but with the popularity rising, that is good possibility.

So yours started quickly, Byron, at 19*F, Colorado had a good start at 9*F. My truck would lope at 28*F on the previous oil. Just did a 27*F start this morning with no lope.

It's possible any good 5W-40 synthetic would get the job done with my old injectors and mild climate, but I'm planning on staying with Triax for now.

I realize I don't know what cold is, given what some of you deal with, and what Cody posted in Montana (-30*F, damn)

Just going from T4 15w-40 dino to T6 5w-40 synthetic made a HUGE difference back in the day with my tired OBS. Fired up in a fraction of the time and cured the lope. I’d say this aspect is the biggest reason you are seeing good results in the cold.

Good news on the lope, or lack there of! Thanks for reporting your experiences thus far. It only solidifies what jstihl and some others have seen from Triax. Although, I suspect your other statement which I have highlighted in bold print is dead on accurate. It will come down to availability and price for a lot of people when choosing a "premium" grade oil.

I am curious about my transition from Rotella T6 5w40 to 50% Triax 5w40 to 100% Triax 15w40 to 100% TSC 15w40 going forward. They each have the "gold standard" of Volvo VDS 4.5 stated by Triax. If I can get the same results from 70% off the price with ease of accessibility, that seems like a reasonable choice in my opinion. I am willing to pay more for something if it genuinely does better, but I also have to consider my budget when looking at products that achieve the same results at 30% the cost.

I am grateful to have found a local source and purchased some Triax 5w40 and 15w40 at a deep discount. Seems like the stars were aligned with that deal looking back on it now.
