Transmission shops

So my 4R100 finally went out. All of a sudden my truck wouldn’t shift and my temp hit 217*. Anyone have any recommendations in the north bay in California?

I would see how much a new unit is for a shop changing one of these is pretty straight forward. When mine went out the price difference between a “rebuild” vs Ford replacement was small. Sometimes on a high price part they have rebates available

I will look into that. I knew this day would come eventually. 170k on my stock tranny.

‘Ok, 217* is nothing to worry about as far as temp go. It won’t shift at all, fluid color, level? Give us some more information.

@Mark Kovalsky is our resident transmission expert, he may have some suggestions.

After a 35 mile drive today, going slower than normal due to wet roads, I parked for a 1/2 hour and went to drive 2 miles at 25mph. The transmission was working just fine and the temp was below 140* when I started driving. Within a few minutes my temp was at 217* I wasn’t watching the temp when it started, but from a stop it wouldn’t shift out of 1st until I manually shifted into second. I shifted back into drive and the shift from 2-3 it was very rough. I pulled into a parking lot and I was getting some shuddering. I pulled the codes and it threw a P0733 gear three incorrect ratio. OD light never flashed. I pulled the dipstick and y fluid smelled burnt. Upon moving the truck it felt like it was in the verge of stalling, but never did.

‘Well, Mark Will be by I’m sure. But I know he always says if the OD light flashes there are transmission codes and it takes a special reader to read them. I’ll leave the rest for Mark... hopefully it’s something simple for you.

P0733 is a trans code. Does reverse work? Third gear and reverse both use the direct clutch.

But with all these symptoms and burnt fluid, it doesn't look good.

reverse does work. Today the truck goes to the transmission shop to find out the bad news. This afternoon I’m going to try and limp the truck across town to drop it off.

So I just got the truck back today from the transmission shop. I ended up getting a rebuilt from a local shop. The owner told me that the inside of my pan had over an inch of shavings in it. Not sure what exactly went south, but my truck is back on the road.

@268Fords , there is no harm in stating the shop you used if you like for future FTE'rs and visitors to find in case they are in a similar situation as you were. If you have the desire to share anyway.

Good to hear you are back on the road.
