When I start cold 1-2 days w/o driving it seems to take a long time (2-3 miles) before my tranny will shift into 4th. RPM's can get upto 2200 or so w/o shifting. I am in the process of putting in gauges so the best I can tell you is that it will only shift at about 1/2 way up the idiot gauge to normal operating temp.
Is this a safety measure or will I be glad I bought the extended warranty.
i dont think that is quite right, mine will shift into 4th when it is cold outside and the truck has sit for a couple days well before the temp gauge even moves
Did a little digging and found a TSB (02-24-4) that is exactly what I am experiencing. The TSB is for 2002's only. Anyone found the same problem with a 2000.
Here is the issue posted in the TSB:
Some 2002 MY 7.3L DIT F-Super Duty, Econoline and Excursions may exhibit the occurrence of P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor false DTC. F-Super Duty and Excursion may exhibit a late 4R100 3-4 shift (hanging in 3rd) at light throttle due to potential lack of converter lock-up occurring after 2-3 shift (most prevalent on 3.73:1 axle ratio vehicles ). This may be caused by the PCM Calibration.
