Question 4 Lo problem

I know that you are not supposed to use the 4wd lo unless you are stuck in the snow or the mud, or in an extreme situation, but the other day i tried to turn it on to see if it works, and it did not even light up. I was wondering if it was a problem or if it didn't come on because i didnt need to use it, any help would be appreciated

If you were not stopped with your foot firmly planted on the brake ,it will not go to 4lo.

There are safety reasons why this has to happen, before the transfercase will not shift to lo

You also have to have the transmission in neutral (P isn't even good enough) and have to be almost completely stopped ( I think the t-case module will accept <3mph, but at that point, with your foot on the brake, you just as well be stopped.)
If that doesn't get it to shift, then the next likely problem is a dirty shift motor (quite common). There are a few places on the net (www.ford-trucks.com has one) that describe how to take the motor apart and clean it up.

If its a manual trans you have to have the clutch pushed in as well... I thought mine was hosed as well until I got the owners manual...
