i heard on another forum on here if you keep your manual hubs unlocked and engage your transfercase into 4-lo that your truck will be pulling in 2-lo and i was wondering how true this is before i give it a try, and if anyone knows how it works, i wouldn't mind knowing that also.????
If you had the old style gear case (the np 205 or dana 300 for example) you could twin stick the case and be able to run the front and rear axles indepently of each other.
Hubs locked and transfer case in 2WD you're fine. Hubs locked with transfer case in 4WD and you're having fun. Hubs UNLOCKED and transfer case in 4WD, I believe it was mentioned in a post fairly recently that it can eat up the hubs if done excessively.
I like to use low range in the transfer case with the hubs unlocked for backing trailers up, I don't have to feather the clutch while trying to manuver a big trailer.
well, i have a big hill behind my house i climbed in 2lo and then tried in regular 2 and i got futher in just 2 than i did in 2lo, if i got to get some where that 2 won't get me i will just lock in 4; i ain't eatin my hubs up, i am not takin the chance.
Could someone explain exactly how running in 2-lo will eat up your hubs? I've been pulling hay trailers in the fields for years with my F-250 in 2-lo, and with 200,000 miles on my truck I still have no problems out of them. Would just like a good explination, I just don't see how this is so...
