They've updated our forecast yet again. Now we're not looking at snow hardly at all. Now it's up to 0.5 inches, or more, of ice. (I know "up to" and "or more" seem to contradict, but the forecast below explains it.) I'll take your snow any day.
I agree, ice is far worse. We got an extra 2.5 to 3 inches of snow yesterday afternoon/last night. Salt truck just went past the house. First time since the new snow fall. And I don't think it's done. Looking at the 10 day forecast, it'll be next Saturday before we'll have a day above freezing.
And to add insult, I, and about 10,000 other Clark Energy customers, have been without power all day. Mine went out at 12:58AM.
They have no idea when we will be back on. We have a pole snapped off back in the camp and my house won’t have power until it is replaced.
I have a really nice fireplace insert and a good generator to run it’s fans. So it’s not too bad for me. I hate it for all those people that need electricity for heat.
When my brother lived in Georgetown, Ky, he had a couple times when an ice storm went through and was without electric. The worst was a 13 day stretch. He lived in a mobile home at the time. He had a 10,000 watt welder/generator on his service truck that they used when he was home. When he was out working he had a 6,000 watt generator that he had running for the house. Everything in it was electric. They had to pick and choose what to do as far as what they could turn on in the house. Even the 10,000 watt machine couldn't run everything at once.
Yeah, we're suppose to get a good snow starting Sunday night. Suppose to have a break Monday, and then start up again Monday night into Tuesday. I've heard predictions of 4 to 8in, 6 to 9in, and one model says 17 inches.
3'-5" Monday night, here. On top of the ice already hanging on the trees and utility lines. I'll probably not have power next week. We still have lines down and a snapped pole.
I'm not complaining, BTW. I have a generator, a good fireplace insert, plenty of firewood, and the internet. It's a little inconvenient, but there are still a lot of families with no heat and it's about to get really cold;
As we begin day 8 on generator power - this is getting expensive - I was wondering how everyone else is doing. How are things your way Wes? I know there have been a lot of outages in your area.
Anyone else? How are things up north, John?
We got around 5 inches of snow over our inch of sleet and 1/4" of ice. I'm concerned about more tree falls when the wind kicks up on Saturday. This could get uglier than it already is.
Things up here are ok. We did get some sleet, but no freezing rain, thank goodness. Because we got the sleet, we only got about 3 inches of snow instead of the 9 to 12 they were predicting. The snow that we've got since the beginning has settled some, but there's 9 or so inches on the ground right now. And that should be gone over the next few days. A high of 25 for today, but I saw 49 predicted for Tuesday, and some rain between now and then.
