Sooooo..... insurance company is still coming in low and they said for for me to buy it back it would be $6500- $7k?!? Still in negotiations with final number on the total price but the buy back numbers are a higher than I expected and will probably just have them take it away for that. Since my last post the member in here with one potentially for for sale has reached out to me. Hopefully we can get a deal together if the vehicle is what I’m looking for. I appreciate everyone that has contacted me about potential replacements.... etc.
Seems like a really clean truck with a lot of value in parts. In California the rear windows/hatch go for $1000+ EACH!! I bet you would find a high mileage truck like mine that would love a doner driveline. my truck is lifted, clean, looks great, never disappoints. but with 240K miles, the driveline is showing it's age.

It sounds like you're being polite with these guys and they will eat you alive if you are. You got to get arrogant and pissy with them and play hardball tell him the truck is completely demolished you just wanted for structural parts and you're not paying fair market value just to get back the parts left over. They will do anything to get even a little bit off of what they have to pay you I have always had great success with playing hardball and getting nasty with them unfortunately it's just what you have to do. otherwise they will take you to the cleaners and hang you upside down until your pockets are empty. Make sure to use a raised voice and if you have to threaten to get a lawyer. Before you call them look up the name of the law firm so you can rattle it off the cuff as if you know somebody there they will quake very quickly usually when you do that especially when they Google it and find that it's one near you that's how you play hardball.
Another thing I know that will get you through their stupid red-tape quicker is if this person seems set in stone on pricing demand a different agent which makes that reps quota look bad the next agent will be much more generous because they will see that another agent has already failed and they won't want the black mark on their own record and they will be willing to give you more leeway I had to do that against Geico. whoever the adversary insurance company is demand to deal with a new agent and to never speak with the first agent ever again act as if they have insulted you or otherwise really pissed you off. As stupid as this all sounds it works I agree it should not be necessary and yet it is and it works. These people get paid good money to BS you make them earn it.
Master.... polite went out the door within about 5 minutes of talking with the adjuster. I have already had my attorney contact him via phone and in writing. Our agent is aware of how fcked off I am about the treatment we are receiving. We haven’t owned the vehicle for 2 months. Ins co. Did say that if I had a purchase order/ sales receipt it would help to get the full value of the vehicle.... some bull****. Luckily I did have a friend of mine, that is a dealer, run it through his dealership for delivery.. etc. so I do have the paperwork for the deal. Our agent has been in the business for 40 years and said he has never experienced such a discrepancy on what KBB is and what they want to pay. Ins co. Is trying to feed me some bull**** that they can’t find a comparable vehicle out there to get a value? Sooooo... they said they called 2 dealerships and asked them what it was worth on trade.... they averaged the 2 quotes and gave me that number! Our agent assured me it would be taken care of this week. We will see. Thank you for the advise.
You never take a trade-in value for a vehicle from the insurance company. You are not a car dealership so you cannot REPLACE your truck with trade-in value. The value they can and you can agree on is REPLACEMENT VALUE. In other words, what does it cost to replace what you owned? What are local and online retailers SELLING a similar vehicle for? I also used completed(read: sold) auctions off eBay. It shows what people actually paid for the vehicle.
For your last resort, you want an independent professional car appraiser to look at the truck and give you a valuation...That's a two-edged sword, but it is fair...
Peace.... I am with you brother. That’s what I was screaming at the ins co about. Funniest part about it is that what they said the vehicle was worth on a trade is less than they wanted for me to buy it back wrecked! I did get some good news today though... my bill of sale, which was in mid October, shows exactly what I paid. Also, my agent stood up and quoted them what the replacement amount was based on my full coverage rate. Adjuster called me today with a much larger number that I am going to accept. I believe it is fair. So the search for a replacement continues. I looked at a 1 owner , heated garage kept, 2005 Limited . All maintenance records. This guy has every receipt for anything he purchased for the vehicle..... kept receipts for wiper blades... etc. it is a 6.0 though. And as you can imagine, he wants a lot of $$$ for it. Has just over 100k on the clock.
Now that they are on the right track, make them an offer of like 500 bucks to keep the wreck, and i bet you they accept with a little elbow grease, it will cost them some to transport it and have it auctioned, where as if you take it, all you have to do is exchange the title to salvage and their work is done.
Im sure there is more then 500 bucks worth of good usable parts on that thing, i did that exact hard ball offer once they had a number i liked for settling, and they reluctantly accepted it. I had just dropped a brand new built engine into one of my cars someone hit, had the receipts for it too, 500 bucks and i got the payout, and kept the engine, and sold it for a lot more then 500 bucks, and the rest i sent to scrap since i wasnt going to build another car that engine would fit.
I haven't really read the entire thread so I am sorry if this has been mentioned. Typically if you can prove what its worth you will get that amount. Get on car gurus and maybe autotrader and try to find a few excursions as close to yours as possible. They will typically throw out the high and the low and give you the middle, just make sure you are satisfied with whatever 'low" amount you choose in case they use that. I don't know what to tell you about the salvage value but it sounds like more trouble than it is worth IMO
Well.... wrecker came and picked it up today. Insurance company would not negotiate at all on “salvage” price so away it went. Mailed my title to them. Waiting for check via FedEx. Said I should have it early next week. Ty all for your advice. I wish I knew where the truck was headed so someone could get some nice parts off it.
