I think mine is toast as well. How many miles on your truck?
I didn't even bother checking to see if its covered under warranty or not. Ordered a new OEM heater from White Bear Lake Ford $285 and about $15 for shipping. I can fix it myself when it's convenient over the weekend and not have to be without the truck for a day or more.
on the app, select the truck (if you have others there too).
upper left hand corner of the screen should be for notices, check there.
or click on vehicle details and then at the top of the screen there might be an important notice, click that if there is one.

I had one notice for crank case ventilation
Nothing on the heater.
Now I am a Motorcraft guy and I would like to keep my truck Motorcraft but I don't trust a part that only lasts 5 years.
As for Overkill i don't even live in the tundra like he does. It may get to 25 but that's it. It hasn't even been that cold here. Not sure what temp these things kick in and do they come on with the truck just sitting there. Doesn't seem like I got much use out of this heater.
Question is do i go with what only lasted 5 years or go aftermarket and take my chances.
Recommendations welcome.
Heater does not come on without the truck running. That much I know. As for the heater, my 2013 after 7 years never had the heater go out. I traded it in August for the current truck.
Well DEF heater is toast. They quoted me a price of $1,600 to fix it. I was floored. Ford website is down so they couldn't tell me if i was under that extended warranty. Part is $350 if I install it myself. It looks like so much fun to do this job. LOL Not going to pay $1,600 for something I can do myself. Bad part is I just topped off the tank so she b full.
I had the P20BA error come up in the last month. 2016 with just 60K miles. I do have the extended warranty, and I had it fixed by the dealer. In/out in 1.5 days. I too looked at the YouTube videos on DIY replacing the heater and it looked like a 1/2 - 3/4 of a day job by myself. it was a no brainer to have the dealer replace the DEF heater. They replaced the DEF heater and DEF sensors.
My truck stopped reporting DEF fluid 1/2 full warning messages. The 1/2 DEF warnings stopped being reported at about 25-30k. The only DEF warning I would get was with the DEF<500mi. The info screen would show that the DEF was less than 1/2 full, but no warning. It will be interesting to see if this warning comes back with the replaced sensors.
So far mine doesn't seem to be in limp mode yet. has anyone else had there truck go into limp when the heater went out.
I may have a talk with my dealer to see if in fact $1,700 is really the price to have this fixed. They charged me $260 just to look at it which I thought was also ridiculous. i may have a conversation about that also.
If you bought one from the aftermarket which one did you get. I have seen prices as low as $150 Rockauto.com and the dealer wants $350 1AAuto.com wants $250
