Old Red Build Thread
Bed is off.
I can finally get to the cab corners so I can cut out all the rust, fix the rockers and floor pan, drop the tanks and replace them, restore the frame and coat with POR-15, and fix the destroyed leaf spring shackle. A lot of work will be going on here soon.
Carnage at the shackle.
Keep it up!
Rust took this hanger as a victim.
Had to grind the old rivets out and hammer on the hanger to get it off.
Quick spray of undercoating to cover the bare spot I had to wire wheel down. Everything else is getting POR-15.
This was before replacing the hanger. I wanted to get as much POR15 on the frame as I could before rain started hitting it and making the rust worse. When I’m done, both tanks will be replaced, the whole frame will be coated, and the hangers will have been replaced. I want this thing to outlive me.
Hanger is on. Had to run to Lowe’s after this to get the bolt for the leaf spring eye. If anyone is ever wondering, it’s a 9/16” x 5” bolt through there.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
EBPV was stuck open from neglect. Deleted it before reinstall.
Watch those AC compressor bolts. One of mine broke off.
Got it out with a stud extractor.
Engine is out. Over 300k on this thing and it was still working hard. But it was tired and time for a new one.
Crate motor came in. Freight company delivered it right to my garage door when I was at work.
HPOP reservoir installed. New motor looked amazing.
Stage 1 injectors installed.
Almost ready to go back in the truck.
Truck ready to receive a new heart.
We had a hard time getting this thing to lay in to the motor mounts.
This is where it really started to feel like I was gaining traction.
Rockers were trashed.
I’m no welder, so I did my best. This isn’t a show truck, but anything was better than having Bluetooth rockers.
Floor pan patch.
Cab corners were roached.
I got the new corners welded in and cut the step bars off as well.
Classic wheel arch rot.
This became the hardest part of the body work for me. Body filler did not want to agree with me when I got to that point.
This was a terrible bondo patch I found under the rear taillight.
