I Am a hot shot driver. Do you think 50% on windshield will get me stopped much???? I don’t see how you are not getting stopped every single day.
50% isn’t dark at all in my opinion....but that’s coming from someone with dark tint.....my truck has 20% on windshield and looks dark from outside but not inside.
I agree on the 50% ^^
Speaking front side windows only:
I'm in NJ and in a town where police are particularly hard on tint. I had 55% 2 vehicles ago, and no one bothered me for 5 years with it. On my last F150 I put 70% carbon tint on the side windows to tone it down as I felt like I was getting too old for tint. You couldn't even tell the side windows were tinted regardless of conditions, it felt like a waste to me after I had it done. Anecdotally, I felt like I could still feel the sun beat in and heat up my arm too, I didnt feel that way with the 55. When I do the F250 I think I am going back to 55 on the side windows.
It is interesting to me when people tint over the factory glass in the rear, I would love to see a test with quantitative results to see if it actually makes a difference.
Tinting your front windows that dark can be dangerous. Tinting your windshield at all is very negligent. Modifications to a vehicle should increase performance/usability. Purposely decreasing visibility is putting everyone else on the road at risk.
I too have a doctor's note for photophobia. Light gives me headaches and I pretty much wear sunglasses in every type of weather. The only time I wish I had window tint is when I'm driving 1+ hour on a sunny day with snow on the ground, so like twice a year.
Lower your tint and buy good sunglasses before you commit vehicular manslaughter. You're not going to convince a jury you needed triple limo black on your windshield.

who has “triple limo black on windshield” ? It’s been working for me just fine, like I said I have a an actual medical condition and this helps tremendously.
Ive only seen this statement from entities that sell tint.
I've seen the same statement said from various sources, although where it originates is sometimes unknown. Heres what Wikipedia says. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factory_tint
I dont have any links to share but imagine there has to be YouTube videos using various measuring devices to demonstrate the difference between factory glass and window film.
It’s the internet. We can hear all kinds of things. Doesn’t mean any of them are correct.
tidbit on google from Carlite for the 2009+ Ford F-150's factory privacy glass:
VLT: 18% UV Light Transmittance: ~ 7% (i.e. 93% of all incident UV is blocked) Total Solar Energy Rejection: 61%
By contrast, the front door windows have the following: Visible light transmittance: 72% UV light transmittance: 36% (64% blocked) Total Solar rejection: 40%
I always thought factory had something on it because transition glasses do not tint while in the car. I have to wear sunglasses instead of regular if it is too bad out
