I’ve been having issues for a long time now with the gap at the top of my column. It’s a 3OTT, and the gap is 1/2 to 3/4 wide. And the turn signal doesn’t cancel nor does the horn work. To get these things to work I have to push the wheel into the column, but when I realease it comes back up.
I have tried adjusting from the two bolts inside and the clamp in the engine bay. I feel like I’m missing some other important step because the whole assembly likes to move together, bending the rag joint, when I try and adjust

Reason: Typo in title
Loosen the retaining bolt on the firewall and the 2 bolts at the bottom of the dash and pull the column up. You may need to pull the steering wheel to adjust it as you are pulling against a spring under the steering wheel.
Your problem may be related to one or both of the column bearings being worn/shot.
Mine had a larger than normal gap too.
The bottom bearing was toast and that allowed the spring to pull the shaft up and caused the clamp and nut near the bottom to rub on the bottom of the column tube. It actually caused the tube to cut into the nut and clamp and flared the end of the tube.
Here are links to my threads on how I fixed it: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-retainer.html https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...g-install.html
