sorry for new thread,
After my rag joint (complete) install I now have about a 1/4" gap at the steering wheel. My brother moved the column a little but when we tightened everything back up it gaps up again.
It's just close enough to make the signal trips and horn work.
Any suggestions on best way to close this up?

Looks like there is a groove on the shaft that the pinch bolts for the coupling sits in so the coupling shouldnt be moveable. Its possible you overtightened something?
well i don't know,my brother helped me with this.
The first thing he did was loosened the small clamp on the intermidiate shaft that appears to hold some kind of dust cover that slips into the steering column below the transmission linkage. Did'nt help. Then we loosened the big clamp near outside firewall and the clamps under the column inside and he pried the column towards wheel and it closed the gap. But when he tightened up the clamps the gap reappeared.
At first it was so bad that the horn and signals did not work.
Bama, the pinch bolt where the coupling meets gearbox is right .He definetly did that correct.Bama I'm not sure what you mean here...
("Can you move the coupling on the steering wheel closer to the firewall?")
At first I thought the coupling might move some towards the firewall and thus move the column too but there is a groove I think on the pump shaft that the pinch bolt sits in so therefore the coupling cant slide on the shafts. It sounds like you just need to adjust the housing the shaft rides in. You may have to wait for someone who has done this lately to help, sorry
Does anybody have a decent diagram of this?
i.e.- From steering wheel to pitman arm.

My old Haynes book has one crappy drawing with hardly any help.
the little sleve on the steering shaft right where it goes into the cab needs to be loosened, then someone holds the steeringwheel down and the other moves that sleeve up and tightens it... i have done this like 5 times swapping steering boxes in and out... makes it easy

Thanks man
it would be the small clap u taked about in this post i believe
all right 73hb
this is the clamp that looked like all it did was hold up a small dust cap or something with a leather or felt gasket up in where the column comes out of the cab, below the transmission linkage...
Is that the one??
