ABS and multiple warnings

Hello,

been awhile since I have been on here.

I let let my son drive my 2016 eco boost the other week and it was raining. He got a little sideways on the wet pavement and now have multiple lights on the dash

ABS
Hill descent control fault
parking aid not available and it no longer beeps
Service Advance Trac

I am at a loss. I hooked up my laptop with Forscan and it showed ABS module fault. Code U0415 “invalid data received”.

Any ideas?

Thank you

I’d say it’s going to take dealer level scanning equipment to figure this out.

Fingers crossed that it’s not the ABS module.

I'm guessing it's something more than "a little bit sideways". I will propose something was hit that caused damage to one or more of the wheel rotation sensors.

I hope not. I did not see any indications on the tires or anywhere that something was hit. I also have a hard time believing that loosing traction in the rain and getting a little sideways would cause all these system failures.

So would the best guess to look at the wheel sensors first? Is there anything under the dash could this? Thinking maybe he kicked something when he panicked?

I saw a used ABs control module and pump on ebay that I may order.

Disconnect the battery (both pos and neg) for a few hours with the headlight switch on to drain any residual voltage. Put your battery on a charger while it’s disconnected. When fully charged, reconnect, drive for a few miles and see if the problem goes away. Low battery voltage can cause many strange issues.

All those codes are common with a defective EPAS unit. Is there any new knocking in the steering wheel?

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them over the next few days.

I hope it is not the EPAS. I do not here any strang sounds from the steering.

Now that does remind me. There is a slight click sound coming from the front when the tires are turning. It has been doing that for over a year and I can’t seem to figure it out. I have replaced the front brakes but it never went away. Could that be coming from the ABS/speed sensor module perhaps?

That click could be a wheel bearing. When you are traveling and hear it, turn the steering wheel left/right. If it goes away when turning, I'd bet on a bearing.

Update

I picked up a better code scanner that allows me to test the ABS system. It said faulty left wheel speed sensor. Just finished replacing it and all the problems that it was having are gone. Amazing how a $30 sensor can cause multiple warnings.

thank you for the help and info from everyone on this forum. Hope this helps someone else.

Well it all came back. On the way to dinner all the warnings came back. I wonder if there is something going on in the wheel hub area?

If replacing the sensor fixed it temporarily, I would go back to that spot and look around for a damaged wire and/or connector. Something got whacked or something.

The sensor comes complete with cable and connector all as one piece. It runs up to inside the engine compartment to another connector. I looked at the other end and saw no problems with it. I already went ahead and ordered a replacement wheel hub assembly.

thank you

Ok another update.

I replaced the left side wheel hub assembly last Friday. All warning lights are gone. I have driven the truck for the last few days and they have not returned. It was a fairly easy process to replace it. Took me about 1 hour in all.
