68 f250 rwd. Tire size/rims question

Hello all. I believe they are the 16.5 rim..I'm not 100 percent sure and I'm not around the truck but I'm going to keep the rims but id like some aftermarket ones with slightly taller and wider tires than original. Any ideas? I'm not a wheel person so that's why im asking for ideas. Not sure of clearance but it has power brakes on front. Drum in rear

Basically you are screwed with 16.5's as there are almost none made anymore, and the few are very expensive. Upgrade to 16's for a better selection with even more available with Dodge 17" wheels. Avoid GM wheels as the hub opening is too small.

265/75R16 is pretty much identical in diamater to the 7.50-16 that came on the lowest rated 250 that year, but is a little wider. A 235/85R16 is a direct replacement to a 7.50-16 in diamater and width. One with 16.5s would have an 8.00x16.5 and a 265/75R16 would look right, and be a little wider than stock. You might fit a 285/75R16 but ANY modern tire is going to look or be wider than what you have

I think the 90's steel wheels still fit the dog dish caps from years before as well. If you want to keep original caps.

I suggest buying some 17 or even 18 inch aftermarket wheels of your liking. In the range of 8" wide.

Tire size I would recommend possibly a 285/70R17. Cooper Discoverer AT3 is a fantastic tire.

Never seen a tire that size. But it would be too big for the front.

255/85R16 would fit. But they are hard to get.
285/75R16 would also fit. And that's a common size.

Bolt pattern is 8x6.5". Very Standard 8 lug pattern. Get something with negative or zero offset. Positive offset is no good.

Again, I HIGHLY recommend going with a 17" or bigger wheel. Some aftermarket 16s can interfere with the front brakes. Not to mention that 17, 18 and 20 inch tires are the norm nowadays.

I have to agree with "351 Cleveland C4", about the "brake interference". I have the front disk brakes from a 79 F350 on my 69 F250 Camper Special, and there isn't enough clearance for the stick on wheel weights. So I would go with 17 or 18s if you can.

Alright fellas...I'm pretty certain I have split rims. So I will replace them but the tire size will be 285/70/17 is there a way to get decent rims that I can still use the original hub caps? I'm not educated in wheels at all. I like the original look of the truck but I would like beefer tires. It's 2wd tho. I'll double check the split rim situation but I'm 90 percent sure they are splits.

On my 70 f250 I use 235/85 r16s. I couldnt find a good side pic to show how they fit in the front fender. There is only a little over an inch above the tire but these are 50 year old springs as well.

My factory calipers clear 16 inch wheels just fine. I have old ford 16" wheels but had 16.5" from factory. A chart I found said 285/75 r16 is 1.1" taller and 2" wider than my 235/85 r16.
