I just looked closer, that cylinder wall is trashed. Probably not a usable block.

I will be sending that injector back to see if it was defective, it sounds like a bad harness gasket cant do that. Maybe it was stuck open?

What are the chances I got crap into my turbo, HPOP, and injectors? Driven maybe 1 mile and idled for 15 min or so.

Not finding much locally, I found a 97 7.3 with 336k on it. 2500 bucks, single cab no bed. Do the blow by test, offer 2k, part out the rest?

I wouldn't be worried about your parts being hurt. I currently am running injectors that were near new in my truck. They came out of a truck my bil had just gone thru with parts you speak of and more. It was a company truck and the guy drove it like he stole it and grenaded a cylinder similar to yours. I also have the hpop and few other things from it. Everything is fine

as far as finding you a motor, im assuming your on the opposite coast as me so i dont have much input.

I've seen metal stuck in the injector oil side.

I'm outside of Boise, Idaho. There are a **** pile of 7.3s around here. Problem is they are in running driving trucks. I can drive a few miles down the road and see 6-7 OBS’s or 99-03 super duty’s

I looked for the piece but it has already been recycled. It was odd looking like a piece of soldier or small melted aluminum. It was ferrous though.

Just picked up this truck. Well I pick it up tomorrow. It was kenworth service truck. They bought it new in 1997, 336k miles on it, It started out in Reno, then went to Utah, and spend time in Utah until the Idaho location needed the service bed for a newer 6.7. It sat for a month and he said it may take a minute to start, started right up. Did the blow by test with a ping pong ball. No blow by. no bubbles in the degas tank, no oil leaks under it which was surprising! Mine had a ton when I got mine.

So I will pull the blown motor (can I get some $ for it as a rebuilder special?) then sell the trans out of this one, keep the tcase, fuel tanks for aux tanks and move on.

What a ****ing disaster, it makes me sick. I will use motorcraft everything from now on.

While I have the motor out with the weight and boost I can make with the 364.5 SXE turbo do I need head studs or any other crap? Or just swap it over and move on?

The dude was super cool, he had a ton of people lined up and people who saw it before me but I was the first to message him and he honored it. He had it listed for 2500 and still took 2k even though he had a long list behind me. He said he had a similar disaster story with a 6.0 and felt bad and since it was a company truck I doubt he cared much either lol

Glad you found a replacement. I cringed when I saw the blow by video you posted, always sucks to see that happen to someone. Hope everything works out for you hvyhaulr. did you figure out what the cause was ? I know you mentioned that it might be a faulty injector but didn't know if you found out for sure.

the issue we believe is a bad VC gasket harness. When I changed it the black smoke and crap went away. Dusty at 1023 diesel wonders if Dorman had pined out the harness incorrectly and got past quality control.

now to decide what to do to this engine (swap it all over, injectors, turbo, etc.)

I probably should do cups again since it’s 336k. My buddy says do head studs only because the engine is out but the less I touch it the happier I’ll be but if it’s good idea I’d consider it.
