New owner here. purchased my 56 last April. It was fully rebuilt to stock and has 5600 miles on it.
3 questions.
Clutch has a friction point/engagement at the top of the pedal. I checked the adjustment and it is within the 1 1/8 - 1 3/8 for free play.
Is this normal for the 56?
also I was reading another thread that indicated the tranny oil weight should be 140? book says 95
and finally another thread mention that with a non synchronized 1st gear you should be starting in 2nd unless pulling a trailer? is this correct?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Tyler
Thanks for the reply all, and ALBUQ F-1 yes the clutch etc was replaced when the engine was rebuilt. My brother was the one who noted the friction point was high and told me the clutch was going. I just thought it strange when there wasn't many miles on it. so wanted to find out from some people in the know if this might be normal for the 56 or I should just replace and then I know for sure.
There are a lot of wear points on the clutch linkage that can reduce the amount of action at the release bearing. Is your linkage in good shape? Usually as your brother says a high friction point means a worn disc, but could your brother just be used to more modern vehicles? If you are happy with the way it is, there's no slipping or grinding of gears, just keep an eye on it.
