Clutch question......

Back a month or so ago my stock hpop took a dump,so I replaced with a T500 from Joey at Terminator Engineering. Before the hpop episode my clutch wasn't slipping. After I installed the T500, which I know is modded just a bit, my clutch slipped in every gear. I contributed that slipping to contamination of all the oil that ran down the back of the block and got into the housing. Ok. The slipping got better but never completely went away.
For the last three days I have been hauling replacement windows & doors in a 22 ft tandem axle enclosed trailer . The info on the side of the it says GVWR 7000 lbs, 3500 lbs per axle. Now, I dont know the exact weight of the trailer itself, but a couple of the arch top units weighed in at 890 and 1060 lbs. Along with those two, there were 19 other units that probably weighed around 100 lbs each, give or take. So with tools, several extension ladders on the roof rack and all of the contents, what would a conservative weight estimate be? I only ask this so you guys can have an idea of what the load is. My question is....... I thought I would have a hard time hauling this due to my slipping clutch, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Its not slipping at all even on steep grades. I thought with the added weight it would really be slipping. Am I wrong? Is it the opposite? I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but is there a possibility the T500 pump is too much for my truck which has stock injectors? Could it be, as my old man would say , " running through the clutch"? Any thoughts?

Your trailer was probably in the 6,000 lb range, but with little drag on it. Not much of a load for the truck so I wouldn't expect the slipping to be worse. The new pump won't cause the clutch to slip any worse with stock injectors and a Superchip unless the old pump was really weak and the clutch was already gone.

More than likely you're just dealing with a clutch that got saturated in oil from the leak. You'll probably need to slip the clutch some more on purpose to help burn the oil off. When my clutch got soaked in diesel, it took about 3 days to get it to stop slipping, but I helped it slip and I tend to drive more than most. I don't know if oil will take longer.

Thanks for the info Chris. I guess it will take longer with the oil........ It's been over a month since the hpop swap......1500 to 2000 miles. I have been "helping it slip like you said but it does'nt seem to be burning off. The clutch had about 45,000 on it before the swap, and I don't abuse it. Don't think it was shot, but stranger things have happened. I don't understand why its not slipping at all now. Wouldn't it still slip with the trailer like it did without it?

You have certainly burnt off all the oil and glaze by now and I would not expect to have any more severe slipping untill it's time to replace it, the additional weight of the trailer and the fragility of the load most likely caused you to make the first few starts very conservatively on the clutch building enough heat to degas that top of the friction material and removing that coked on glaze AKA hillbilly resurface!
