C6 Trans Pan
C6 Trans Pan
Hey guys, my pan is shot on my 84 250 4x4. Which really irritates me because I didn’t find out til after I had dumped $90 worth of synthetic atf into it.
My question is, can a deeper than stock pan such as the spectre 5464 work or do I need to go with the stock size depth? I’d like to have some extra fluid capacity because I imagine it’ll be towing a trailer sporadically, and based off the fluid that came out, the tranny got hot at some point. That fluid looked like it was put in the truck when dinosaurs still roamed the earth.
TIA!

Not just hitting coconuts or ground clearance, but a deeper sump can impact your turbo pipes (if you have a turbo). I went with the hypermax turbo kit, which allowed me to install an alum deep sump for my C6, but if I had a banks kit, my up-pipe would've hit the sump and made that a cumbersome project.

Well, I bought a mr gasket one for 43 bucks. Has the drain plug and everything so I don’t make a huge mess next time I drop the oil. Kinda nice. Trans case got hot at some point and is warped, so it’ll need to be replaced eventually. After five layers of gasket and gasket maker, it sealed up tight. I feel sorry for the poor soul that has to take that off later.
Finally got her home after a month. She fought me the whole way though lol. My throttle cable came off the throttle pedal before I got out of town, and so we had to address that. Got it fixed, continued rolling.
Almost made it home and it sputtered out and died. I started to get real anxious, started checking injector lines for leaks, etc etc. Finally I realized that after 400 miles I must need to change tanks lol. Got to the next station and dropped in $60 of diesel. In my defense, it was midnight and I was exhausted.
She goes to the muffler shop today to get the new y pipe mounted and a whole new exhaust system. After a month of working on it, it’s time to pay someone to fix the exhaust and get it inspected.
Y’all have been a huge help, especially lonewolf. I can’t thank you all enough.

We've all been in that situation. Long drive, you try to keep tabs on every gauge, but it's hard after several hours of driving. I once drove from Grants NM to West Los Angeles without stopping in my van, and as I pulled into downtown, my van started sputtering. Totally forgot about the remaining fuel in the tank. So lucky to find a diesel station right at the end of an off ramp.
my 88 used to show empty at 120 miles.
i knew i had fuel in the rear tank because when it hit empty i switched to the front tank..
well, it was 9 pm in the middle of nowhere and i started sputter on front tank after driving 300 miles looking for a place to fill up.
so switched to rear tank. and had to drive another 160 miles before i found a station with diesel.
total pucker factor, because i knew i was running on fumes.
ran out as i turned into the truck stop and rolled to the pump. put 38 gallons into a truck that had a 36 gallon capacity. and luckily the truck stop mechanic as there at the pumps and helped me reprime.
