Hello. My truck is a 73 F250. I have some loose transmission linkage, although it still works.
Down by the transmission itself, the shift lever has about a 3/8 " hole where the adjusting stud fits.
This is not the type with the plastic bushing. The stud just goes in the hole, metal to metal.
Trouble is, it fits very loose. There is visible wear on the round end of the stud and probably plenty of wear on the lever hole too. Contributing to the looseness.
My question is, what can I do? Seems like I could drill out the hole in the lever and stick a grommet in there, of the type that fits in some Ford transmission levers.
That would be a last resort and I don't know for sure if it would even work.
Any experience with this? Suggestions? Parts? Thanks in advance
This might be wrong as it has been awhile since I did this, but on my 77 c6 you could tighten one of the nuts on the other end of that stud with the rounded end. That got the slop out of mine (though too tight made it impossible to move). Also, when I got that truck it only had a regular bolt going through which made it not work correctly, getting the right stud helped a lot and then tightening til it felt right.
Just be sure when you are working on this to put some wood behind the tires.
I know exactly what you're talking about. That's a very common problem with these trucks. The correct repair is to replace the stud and transmission arm. The last time I searched, there weren't any arms to be found and the supply of studs were getting low.

Using Rear Counter parts locator I did a search and found two obsolete dealers that each show one of the studs, no one shows having the shift arm https://www.rearcounter.com/D3TZ-7B4...arts66075.html
Other suppliers...such as who? The Dennis Carpenter site says it has clips in stock but won't let me add it to the cart.
The LMC website says the part is not in the catalog (379620.s)
Thanks for your help .
You're right. There's something wrong with DC's website because according to their inventory they have 1,196 in stock and I've bought the clips from them in the past.

For the stud I just kept searching ebay. Searching the part number sometimes works. Sometimes you catch a truck being parted out, but listed for another part, and you can contact the seller about the part you need. It would be better to find a new one if possible of course. You could check the listings here as well, someone that has a lot of parts might have one sitting in a jar waiting for you.
