Ive got a 1985 f250. Has the zf5 and still stock suspension. I recently swapped the trans and t case (bad zf5) and now I have and issue.
I went from a np208f to a bw1356. The bw has a 4x4 linkage that sticks out way more towards the driver, meaning I'd have to cut a hole in the floorboard, not the trans cover. But I cant connect my np208 linkage because it's reversed from the bw.
Should I look into somehow splicing the two linkages or just cutting a hole?
if it were me, I would cut the hole take the piece I cut (or some new sheet) and weld it back in place of the old hole, get a new carpet set (or herculiner/line-x) and call it a day.
the last thing I would want is some franken linkage I created to not work or be able keep the TC in gear.
But if it has been done before (and worked) this forum is the place you'd find out about it. Good Luck
These trucks are the same up to 96. Why not get the correct linkage from a truck that had the 1356 in it from the factory. It bet it goes in a lot easier than making up something to work.

Are you certain you have it installed correctly? I'm not being rude here, just checking. I've put things in that looked right until I gave them a look the next day. I too am assuming you took the linkage from a 1980-1996 F-Series...
Yes I have the linkage. I had to take it off to install the trans and t case because it was hitting And there's no way it'll fit. I might can heat and bend the **** out of the shifter but I'm not so certain it'd even work like that. I can take pictures next week. About to go on a weekend vacation woohoo!
My 89 has the 1356. It's the one you have to pull the lever toward your leg before it goes into neutral or lowrange. I don't remember if the lever went through the floor cover or not. I may take a look at my donor sitting in the field and see what it looks like(it's a 89 too).

Please let me know. If you can(grass abiding and all) take some pictures
Well, I never noticed that. The 89 I have does have a separate hole in the floor board for the transfer case shifter. I found the automatic floor plate, and it has no hole. And my truck was always 4x4.
The shifter is mounted in the sheetmetal where the floorboard is almost vertical. The transfer case boot and shifter plate is at a pretty radical angle down at the bottom. I didn't get any pictures.
Hmm so it's in your floor board. Guess I'll be getting a new rubber floor mat then and cutting a hole.. til then a hammer and a wrench will by my 4x4:/
