If I keep the old coil, do I need to do anything at all with the coil wiring? Do I need to worry about the ballast resist wire? Or do I just need to hook up the stuff between the dist and the module?
You had posted a bunch of wiring diagrams that I can no longer see. Do you know why?
The above diagrams are just links to where they reside in another person's website. If that website is down for some reason, then they will not show up. I used to have some diagrams that resided on this website iteself, but during one of their updates of the site they were lost, so they will always give you the "red x".
Some of my newer diagrams reside in my own flicker photo account. If the flicker website happens to be down, same thing will happen.
If you want to investigate where any of these diagrams come from, and maybe find out some more info from the site that hosts them, hover your mouse pointer over the diagram or picture, and then right click on it and then click on "copy image location". Then open another window in your browser and paste in the http box at the top. The picture should come up by itself and you can examine the url and determine the website it came from.

Yeah there isn't a red x or anything like that indicating a broken link or path. Weird.
I plugged hooked up the module to the dist with the painless harness, assumed this is correct as everything fit. According to some of the diagrams I'm seeing online, the other plug coming off the module should connect to the factory harness. I don't see any factory harnesses that would fit this plug. Below is a picture of the stuff I unhooked from the old dist. I assume this is my factory harness?
If I am right the stuff in the 2nd picture in your hand will be removed as it is part of the feed back system.
So you are looking to hook up the red & white wires on the plug?
If so I think the other part of that is where the old feed back system is plugged in to the main trucks harness.
Old picture but it is the only one I have with out going to take a new one.
From my parts truck before I took it apart. The red / white looks to be plugged into0 the trucks main harness.

Right, I don't see anything coming off the main harness that would plug into the module like that. Should it have? Mine is an '84, so it the Duraspark II isn't stock. What year is your parts truck? Do I need to rig/splice something up here?
Both of my trucks the pictures are from are 81's
I used the parts trucks full wiring harness, front to rear, in my truck because I felt it was in better shape than mine but I also found out I needed it for the dual tanks as it is part of the main truck & frame harness.
I have not done this swap, feed back to DSII, but from what I have seen posted its a plug-n-play and should have a plug for it.
It you follow the main wire harness from the fire wall to the radiator support there is no plug that would plug into that red/white wire plug?
Do you still have any of the feed back harness still hooked up? If so would it be still plugged into the main harness that I said above?
Dave ----
In the picture in the upper left corner where do the plugs / wires go to?
Ant of it still plugged into the feed back wiring harness?
I see you still had some of it in the truck as the picture of it in your hand would have me believe.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'feedback wiring harness'. I included the picture above of the wiring that I unplugged from the old dist/module. Like you said, I think that is all for the feedback control, and it runs into a big mess of wires, into the firewall, to the left of the brake booster. I was thinking that was the main wiring harness, but I guess that might just be for the computer. There is another harness going into the firewall on the right of the brake booster. If you look at the picture below (sorry for some reason it is getting flipped upside-down when I attach), there is this harness and plugs. They run into the coil, and connect to the harness coming out to the right side of the brake booster. Two of these plugs look like they might fit into the new module. Should I try one of these?
All of the wiring from the feedback system is still in place. I just unplugged what was on the old dist when I pulled it out.

Yes that is the feed back system harness. Part of it should also go to the carb. You should remove this harness from the truck as it is the feed back system harness to the computer inside.

Yes unplug any of them that goes into the harness on the left. You said some of that old harness goes to the coil and to the harness on the right that should come out as the new Painless harness needs to plug into the old harness on the right side.
I am sure once you have that old feed back harness out you will see the plugs needed for the Painless harness.

Finish unplugging that old harness you started from the dist. on back to the firewall. Yes all them in the red needs to be unplugged if they are part of the feed back system.
I am sure once you get them unplugged you will see the needed plug for the box to plug into.

Okay, maybe where I'm getting confused, is I have left the old coil in. Some of the other guys said this would be fine if it was working. If I unplug those three plugs from the old harness, there will be nothing connecting the coil to the main harness. My painless harness has the crescent connector for the coil, but that won't plug into the old coil. FYI, I did actually buy a new coil, but I was going to see if I could get by using the old coil and return the new.

You can use the old coil but it has to be fed the 8V and the ground (Green wire) is switched by the module.
here is the DSII wiring schematic
Unplug those plugs and one of them will plug into the module. If you want to use the old coil, snip the horsehoe connector in your new and very expensive harness you bought and wire it in directly to the old coil. Or buy the proper coil and just plug the horsehoe connector into it. Your choice.
Unplug those plugs in the picture below, one of them should fit your ignition module plug.

Okay, so I have the new coil. Some guys said the old was better, but it sounds like at the lease using the new coil will make wiring this up easier. So I'll install the new coil and hopefully get the wiring hooked up.
It says to run vacuum off the carb to the dist? I assume I'll be able to remove some of the other vacuum hoses from around the carb once I get the new dist working? Can I just run a hose from the vacuum tree under the carb to the dist?
