H2E setup, rebuild or replace with HX50?

I have a holset H2E setup on my truck. It is leaking oil into the exhaust, quite a steady drip. I recently had the turbo out for new up pipes and cleaned it up. It spins fine, no play.

While looking into rebuild options, I have found a few places that will do it starting at $350 (Beans and majestic turbo). I havent found very many rebuild kits myself. The ones I do find don't look very official, And are about $100.

The HX50 question.

While researching rebuilds and parts, I found people saying the HX50 is pretty much a direct replacement for the H2E. Ive heard its a newer design, but have a hard time finding exactly how thats better.

I have found offbrand hx50s for $300 out the door and Holset remaned hx50s for $600.

I know that there's alot to consider with housing sizes and such. You folks are much more informed then i am with that. What do y'all think I should do?

Cant help you with H2E but im currently building T4 kit for HX50.It is 61.5/99 comp side and 86/72 turbine side,16cm housing.I have 67/99 comp wheel and housing if 61.5mm inducer is too small..
I have 205/80 hybrids and no intercooler,water/ meth kit is added later..
i have a thread on this in Sd forum.
Use only genuine Holset!

Check out Gpop Shop. I had a BMW K27 done there for a customer...360 bearing upgrade, larger and billet comp wheel, clipped turbine wheel, etc.

I'll check then out! I seem to be finding very little information on these turbos and parts for them.

They list a rebuild kit for the various H1 models and H2A. I emailed them to see if they know if otll work with an H2E. I think internainternally, all the H2 models are the same. The difference is in how the housings attach.

I also read that if my oil drain tube isn't angled enough it can cause the oil to come out the exhaust side. Ill take a look at that tomorrow.

Well, keep us posted.

That K27 is a Euro only model that was all grey market here in US. But similar CHRA to Porsche's on the 993s I think.

I called and spoke with a handful of different shops today that handle turbo rebuilds. The short answer is nobody can really give any decent time quotes or information without seeing the turbo for themselves. That made me want to lean closer to having a local-ish shop do it to eliminate any shipping snafus.

I found a shop thats about an hour away, big plus is their main guy lives real close to me and is willing to meet locally so I wouldn't have to make the drive. The shop is Rochester Diesel.

Theyll be able to measure it first and see if there are any reman/new center cartridges available, then we can decide if its better to rebuild or replace.

I checked my drain line, looks to be more then sufficient. Bummer, that would've been too easy.

I ordered a gasket kit for a 5.9 Cummins, figured most all Holset turbos probably had the same feed and drain gaskets.

Man taking the drain line off is a pain with the turbo still attached. Yall with the stock turbo are lucky, doesn't it just mount straight to the pedestal?

Anyway, here's the proper gasket on top of the shoddy one I made fit. Wouldnt think thats a huge enough difference to make it leak but well see.

I can't recall if you've converted to electric fuel, but are you routing the return through the original return hole or going through the fuel pump hole that is farther up? I'm considering redoing mine as I was never happy with the angle on the return.

I did do an efuel conversion. Thats what started this whole debacle. My drain is going to the stock spot. Its a bendy steel tube.

Here's a better pic that shows how much the crap gasket was blocking

My truck seems to be running fine and is not leaking now after swapping that gasket. Boy was it a bear changing it without pulling the turbo. Only had to pull the intake Y

Still need to fix the downpipe leaking tho
