Not All 3.0L Powerstroke F-150s Without 18E02 Open Are Exempt From Problems

This is how the EGR cooler bypass appeared when disassembled.

Old EGR valve/bypass/cooler assembly on the left. New, replacement EGR valve/bypass/cooler assembly on the right. Note the different bypass valve actuator on the replacement unit.

For your viewing pleasure, I had a 2019 F-150 3.0L that came in repeatedly setting P2457 DTC. The first picture above, clearly illustrates why. Funny enough, being a 2019 truck, this particular one did NOT have 18E02 open, so this particular truck got a complete new EGR valve/bypass/cooler assembly complete, not just the bypass valve under the 18E02 program. Those of you who do have 18E02 open should get theirs done as early as possible. Ignoring it, can result in this:

Please put this in layman’s terms. What are you trying to say?
I have a 2019 3.0L. It runs great. No noises. The dealer checked for the TSB before I bought it a year ago. Are you saying I could still have an EGR that will grenade the engine? If the dealer says my truck does not fall under the TSB, I can’t make them do anything. Your reason for posting is unclear, thus confusing.

Yes his post had me confused too. I did PM him, great and helpful guy. If I understand it correctly, trucks that were built with the "suspect EGR's, screws that can fall out, not welded" in 2018, that needed to be repaired BEFORE they failed had a 18E02 opened for the repair or swap out of the EGR assembly. I'm not sure but I under stand the defective EGR's DID get put on some 2019 trucks. I have no idea on when the assembly line started getting the updated EGR's. Again, I would PM him with your vin and maybe, he can run it at work to see if your truck had a 18E02 opened. If it did, it got the upgraded EGR. I hope you purchased a truck with a build date of after the improved unit hit the line. I hope this helped.

I did find out that my truck DID have a 18E02 opened for the upgrade. I found out it was done at the dealer I purchased the truck from. At the time of the swap, the dealer still owned the truck and it had 11 miles on the odometer. I remember asking the sales persons, (I had two because one was supposed to be "the diesel guy"), Did this truck get the EGR problem fixed? They just looked at me with a dumb deer in the headlights look. They knew nothing about the EGR screw problem, so they said. I asked three separate times.

On a silly note. The diesel f150's have a bed side just for them, a square fuel filler door instead of the round one. I'm guessing all f150's will eventually get the bigger fuel doors. It's just too expensive to produce two different bed sides and fuel doors. I will have to look at the 2019 and up trucks to see if that changed yet.

When I bought my 2019, I asked the dealer about the EGR issue. The service manager ran the VIN and said it was not under the recall. Should I be concerned? It runs like a top. I guess I have up to 100k to figure it out.

....and now 2019 models are included in what appears to be a repeat of 18E02. Click on the files below for your viewing pleasure:
