Ignition Issue - 2015

I have had a 2015 F150 since the fall of 2015. One or twice within the first month I had it I got in to start it, turned the key, and nothing. This happened a few times. But if I turn it again, or maybe a 3rd time, it starts. Sometimes, if I keep the key turned, it starts. Sometimes after I left go and the key returns to run, it starts.

It stopped doing this for a couple of years. It is now back to the same thing. Has happened three times in the past week.

Anyone had this same problem?

Bad or worn ignition switch. Do you hang a bunch of keys off of your key fob?

Sure .... when the truck is new if you have a 5lb weight on your keychain that could be something to make it fail when still very new????

OP ... I have had the same issue on my 2016. First time was when I had just purchased the truck, 6mo old and 6K on clock. I was parked in a dark garage during the day, turned on an overhead light, and maybe it didn't get turned off since truck was new to me still. When I came back from a hour and half lunch I got what you are talking about. The interior lights are LED, so there should not have been much of a drain. It still happens, I think most of the time is when I don't yank the radar detector plug since the Accessories on my other vehicles turn off when I exit the vehicle after turning motor off and stay on for the F150, I don't always remember. To me it is the truck scolding me for those power drains .... I am sure one day it will happen, but I get battery load tested every year and it is good.

I know there were other threads here discussing the same thing to no better info that the worn switch .... I think I got that one a few years ago when I was sure I stated like you that it started when the truck was in it's first few months of use.

No. I only have 3 small keys other than the truck key. I'm always telling my wife she needs to take some keys off her keyring, as she has a lot on it.

It shouldn't be worn issue, since it first started (no pun intended) doing this when the truck was less than a month old.

When I first go the truck, the only key on the keyring was the single truck key for a few months, so it's not a weight issue.

Seems to be a bad connection that sometimes connects and sometimes does not.

Might still just be a defective switch. Sure, hanging a bunch of extra weight can cause a good switch to go bad, but a bad switch can do it all by itself.

Sort of reminds me of a Jeep Cherokee we had years ago. We owned it for about 5 years, and once every 6-9 months it would fail to start. Several times, we had it towed into the shop. When it got there, it would work perfectly. Finally, about 3 months before we sold it, we took it into a shop that was renowned for finding difficult problems. They had an ace technician who diagnosed it down to a worn gear on the ignition switch assembly.
