Exclamation HELP! Key won't come out of the ignition

OK I am not sure what is happening here....... My truck was working fine no problem. Then I took it to run an errand I shut the truck off, and the key would not turn all the way to the off position so the key will come out. it turns off the engine but the key won't come out. I bought a new ignition switch with keys and same problem. I noticed before this happened that the key was getting hard to turn. Does anyone know what this is or (hopefully) how to fix it. Thanks for any help.

Not a 100 % sure on you issue. But the way I understand is you can turn the key all the way to the off position but the key will not come out? Since the key didn't come out you switch the key tumbler with new keys and still the key gets stuck in or is it hard to turn?

In the column there is a rod between the tumbler and ignitions switch. You may need to adjust your ignition switch position so that the tumbler rotates fully to off position. there are 2 nuts holding it in place.

sounds like a broken ignition actuator.

My truck is an automatic.

Actuator meaning the piece that is inside the column that pushs the rod?

Any looseness / slop in the shifter? Can you give it a good nudge to be sure you're all the way in Park? Might even try pushing the shifter upward and try turning the key at the same time.

I did try checking the shifter. It didn't make any difference. I will try to adjust the ignition switch on the column tomorrow or as soon as I can. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

yes. there is a tab that works with the shifter interlock that breaks off. if that happens the key cylinder will think the truck is still in gear and will not let the key go to total off position so you can take it out.

on the 2007 isn't that a shifter Sleeve issue ?? I know it common on the Ford Focus but not sure IF the same applies to the 2007 F250 <<== Or F350

Maybe ask in these forums https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum30/ as they cover 1999 thru 2016 and the newer Ignition switches I think are different than the ones used on our IDI trucks.

Ive had several with shifter issues due to a faulty brake pedal sensor. Iirc they wouldn't come back to park as it's got a little solenoid lock on the column
