I went out to my 1999 F-150 yesterday to find that my key no longer worked in the ignition...problem was that to remove it, you have to first turn it to the run position (Don't know how one is supposed to do this if the key no longer works but that's a different story I guess). To make a long story short, a hefty pair o' channel locks and a few cuss words later I got the whole thing a working again...Here's my question...If I am to go out and get a new ignition tumbler, can I get one already keyed the same as mine so I don't have the system reprogrammed? Or should I just have to go through life with a separate door and ignition key?
You can have a new ignition keyed to match your existing key. I don't know about the pats, but it would seem to me that PATS is a completely different module.
If that truck has pats, it should have an 8 cut key. If you buy a lock cylinder from a Ford dealer it will come as a kit which can be assembled for your original key. There will be an instruction sheet with the lock cylinder so you can do it yourself.
Thanks for the fast response in here...I'm more of a DIY kind of guy and I like the idea of keying the cylinder myself...I once bought a used VW that came with three different keys and I was always putting the wrong key into the locks so I took all of the locks apart and filed them to fit the same key.
