Driving home that day, cresting the rise just before getting off the Garden State Parkway close to home I could see the smoke. Our northern test route went past 3 parking lots for the train and ferry to NYC, we could see the cars left in the parking lots having to be towed away.
The idiots who are in charge in NYC decided this year it would be too worrisome to have a crew of 40 set up the remembrance twin tower lights due to Covid, it took a day to get that changed.
Great post Tim. The greatest enemy we have now is how poorly we educate our young people about the greatness of our Democratic Republic and how fragile it can be if we lose sight of the need to constantly protect it (from forces within as well as from the outside)!
I'd add: "And never stop being angry." I'm about as peaceful and serene as they come, but starting talking about America Haters and I see red. I agree, Mark, they've indoctrinated our kids to hate America. It's like the entire rest of the world - the part that hates us - all play a long game, and Americans are so busy amassing material possessions and keeping up with the Jones - a short game - that we're winning the battles but losing the wars.
Even I, although I live almost on the other side of the planet, will never forget this.
But horrifying for me is the fact, that this terrible moment has fallen silent, almost as if it should be forgotten. In the news here was nothing to hear, read or see.
I, for myself, would eliminate all causes of such terrible events.
Without exception.
In memory of the victims of this cowardly terrorist attack and all their relatives.

I still remembered my former boss called me over to watch the 1st tower on fire on TV. I was on it about 3 weeks before taking a relative touring New York city. I remembered talking to a friend about there must be systems of radar and anti-missile protecting it due to previous attack, while standing on the top floor.
How the horror when both collapsed.
We need to remember, and must do something to protect the USA. The result of doing nothing caused us great harm and history repeats itself, in greater scale often times.
I am sure that everyone remembers where they were when they first heard the awful news of the first plane hitting the tower. It is hard to believe that it was 19 years ago.It showed us the worst of humanity but it also brought out the best of human compassion/kindness. I recently watched a movie highlighting the town of Gander Newfoundland and how they coped with 38 wide body planes and approximately 6600 passengers. The town itself is only around 10000 people. The eats coast of Canada has always been known for being open and down to earth type people. I fully intend to do a drive out vacation and see that part and the people.
Definitely will not forget that dreadful slug up the NJ Turn Pike to retrieve my stranded wife from La Guardia (actually over at the Y in Flushing) -- the Turnpike was closed (one-way) --- had to use the debris dump truck routing in/out of the Big Apple.....I was in my "rescue" F-450 DRW at the time with 100 gallons of diesel on board so I fit in with the line of trucks.....
And let's definitely not forget what country was behind it all -- Saudi Arabia (source of the vast majority of terrorists)..........somehow those idiots in the White House (who continue to be in bed with them) have forgotten.
