I have my trucks insured for what I feel they are worth. Incase something happens there is no question as to value. These old trucks are hard to repair and cost can be high, just for a fender bender.
Grundy insurance for 35K on mine is 258 dollars a year. I am limited on mileage to 5K miles per year but I have a 2010 dodge Ram bought new that just turned over 50K on the odometer so don't think I will be in trouble with 5K on my old Ford.
I’m not sure what other states are doing, but last year NC jacked up the yearly taxes on classic vehicles to reflect their potential value. Tax assessment value on our 66 F-100s went from $600 to $11,000 each. With the current state budget financial meltdown and shortfalls, I would not be surprised if this unjust dirty trick comes to a state surrounding you soon.
I pay $336 a year for full coverage on my 65. I have her insured for 15K but have thought about increasing it. Hagerty is now saying it is valued at 16K. When I bought the truck it was valued at 13k so it is nice to see the value increasing. If you have a good driver's record then Hagerty is very reasonable and great to work with. I drive it on weekends and such but due to low miles per year the insurance is not much.

Is that a personal property tax? I thought that went away with the Dodo.
"Nice Truck you got there! You should give us $500".
Yes, property tax assessed each year when you renew tags. Anything 25 years or older gets the “classic” classification. They use the median value of all sales of 1966 2WD F-100s as the tax value.
I have agreed value on my '69 Mach1. Until recently I had unlimited mileage and $60K of coverage, but I decided it wasn't worth the price. They no longer offer that option at any price, but they did allow a 3000 mile/year limit when I revised the value down and gave up unlimited mileage. I told them that I occasionally drive coast to coast and they said no problem, just let them know when I was going on a trip.
