Power steering line blew

Been awhile since I've posted in here. I have a 2001 F350 and Thursday night when I got done cleaning my truck, I was backing out of my driveway and in a turn, the line coming out of the bottom of the pump to the booster blew out of the fitting at the booster. Sucks because I was supposed to take my truck up north for our Wedding so we had to try and cram everything into the wife's 4Runner and some friends cars.

Wondering if I can just replace the like and bleed the hell out of it and be good to go. Checked last night and the tube came out of the threaded end that goes into the booster line, so the end will just come off both ends and I can replace it. I ordered a new OEM line and should be here Friday. I replaced the pump and that line last year though, both OEM from riff raff. I jacked up the front end off the ground to bleed it afterwards too. In my opinion, the pump was still a little noiser than it should be, but I'm used to Ford's being noisy, so I didn't think anything of it. Just checked my fluid semi regularly and it never moved. I muscled it onto my other driveway after it happened, maybe went 100 feet before I parked it where it is now so I'm not worried about damage to the pump. I am curious as to why that line would blow out like that though.

Who knows but, happened to me in the middle of an intersection 2yrs ago, making a U turn..couldnt imagine it happening while towing..goodlord
I did a quick swap with part store line and have a new back up too but, I kept the fittings so that I can match it up to AN fittings and have a braided line made...problem solved

I wasn't going to be towing anything thankfully. My dad was towing the big trailer up for us with his 99 F350 dually (which he cracked his radiator too coincidentally). But because of my dad's cracked radiator issue now, I need my truck back up and running so I can tow the trailer to the wife's resort to take back all the tables chairs and everything else we borrowed from her work this weekend.

I like the idea of the braided line. Even though it wasn't the rubber part that blew out, it was the metal tube pressed into the fitting that blew out.

The OEM design is poor at best. Would be a great opportunity for a well engineered aftermarket item.

The Tech Folder (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-7-3l-psd.html) has an entry for Custom Power Steering Hose which links to this thread (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post19084158). It tells you how to build your own power steering hose.

Mine started blowing fluid on the way home one day. Got to the house, opened hood, and nothing was leaking. Had the spouse turn the wheels.... no leak. WTH ???! I reached down and touched the fitting..... yea.... it blew out in my face !!

As FordTruckNoob mentioned, there is info in the Tech Folder where I helped Sous setup a stainless braided, teflon lined hose to replace the after market and OEM hoses. Mine has been in use for several years now. The Ford hose is better than those after market hoses from the box stores. It’s obvious, the swivel connection is crimped but the Ford has a better design. The connection with the white teflon washer should not be torqued, just snugged good.

Mine blew on me picking up the boys from school a few months back.. I think the entire school was watching my truck and its ANGRY PS pump scream lol! Got it home and put both lines on it.. Stopping that f350 without power made me leave a crease in the leather on the drivers seat
