Power steering pump problem
I have a 1994 Ford F-150 300 6cyl. I replaced the power steering pump today with a rebuilt one i bought from Autozone and it came with a rubber o-ring in a bag. The directions said to put it on the end of the fitting so that it would seal the fitting from leaking. I put the o-ring on the end of the fitting and installed the fitting and tightened it up. I added fluid and started the engine and the fitting started leaking. The fitting had a nylon sealing washer on it before i took the line loose but was messed up when i took the line off. I cant find that nylon washer anywhere that will fit where the old one came off of. I dont know what to do now that i cant find that washer. Does anyone have any idea what to do? I think im about ready to sell the truck. I hate fixing things on this thing everytime i turn around. I need some help.

Are you talking about the pump or the line? Because I'm pretty sure the fittings (what I refer to as the nut) are on the lines, and the line ends are flared so you can't remove the fitting (nut) without damaging the line.

I'm talking about the pump side. The big fitting that the line threads into on the pump will unscrew from the pump so you can swap the one from your old pump if for some reason the two are different. I don't know that this is the problem, just something for you to check and possibly rule out.

I will check that out about the big fitting on the pumps. I didnt think about that but i still need to find that nylon sealing washer that goes on the the line nut that is permanantly fixed to the pressure line that screws in the big fitting. I bought something from a hardware store today and i will try that tomorrow.

if it helps any when i replaced my PS lines and gearbox the gearbox side has groves for the rubber o-rings and the nylon washer goes to the pump. use pipe dope on all the threads and the line under the flare nut. aids in sealing and it wont rust solid so if you have to remove it later it wont be rusted stuck
