Power steering woes

So this is the current situation. Few weeks ago I had to replace the high pressure line for the power steering pump because while backing up it the line out of the fitting on the pump. Went a bought a brand new line from O'Reillys and installed it. It was leaking in this exact spot (from the line around the fitting going into the steering gear.) I dealt with that for about 2 weeks and got tired of putting more fluid in because it leaks whether it sits or runs. Today I bought ANOTHER new line from Advanced and installed it (thread tape on both fittings) and it is leaking from the same spot again!

It is snug, not over torqued, the line has no up or down play, but it can move side to side in the fitting if you really try to move it. Looking for suggestions as to how I can fix this short of replacing the steering gear (might do that anyway with a redhead gear box) and RTV over the fitting to seal it.

I know the one on the pump has a 10-20lb torque spec so I was very cautious on tightening that. I will have to give the thing a good wrenching in the morning to see what happens.

That is the 1/2 in. I tighten as much as I can with a open end wrench and have no problem.

By the way it took 2 weeks for the fluid to quit dripping out of my fender mat.

I sprayed the fender mat with brake clean and it's not dripping it's just the line.

Seems like there was a discussion about this where that end of the line is supposed to have a Teflon ring/washer on it and some people were not getting one on the new lines they were buying. I will have to see if I can find the receipt from where I bought mine from. Mine may have been the low pressure line though.

The Teflon ring goes on the pump end of the hose. The gear end hose end should be flared tube. I'd say the OP doesn't have the nut tight enough.

The teflon tape is probably keeping the nut from sealing the line against itself like it is supposed to.

Take the tape off and put it in your household plumbing drawer. Get some liquid thread sealer for these trucks.

The steering gear can have a flared fitting or an o-ring. If you have the wrong hose/thread it will leak. If it is overtorqued it will leak. I suspect your thread tape is the problem as it shouldn't be used, because with a flared fitting it isn't necessary. Second the PSI in the pump 100% requires a tight flare to seat connection to seal.

Also, I like liquid thread sealer like Loctite 545 I believe.

I torqued it down quite a bit (with the tape still on) and the line quit leaking finally. If it acts up again I will certainly get liquid sealer.
