Looks kinda black to me but that is fair number of miles.

Replace the filter and observe the new one in a couple hundred miles, see if it looks as bad.

Ok so I had a fmp filter on hand part number v3818k and it will not thread properly, ran up to autozone and looked at theirs and same as the fmp one. They did have the motor craft one but unfortunately I need one with the cap. Anybody have a good part number for it? The one on there is a cheap pgf filter and fits great.
thanks

Unfortunately I have been running these pgf filters for a while and the price is good,. Lost my connection on that and spending that much money on a filter makes having a diesel worthless money wise.
I know I can run a motor craft filter and lid and it will all work out. I just dont see it but thank you

Looks pretty normal to me as well. Ford recommends 15,000 mile fuel filter intervals, but I go by the post filter fuel pressure gauge I installed. Once I see the pressure starting to slowly/slightly move down at idle or at higher RPMs, I will change the filter then.

about how long until you start noticing that? Toying with the idea of leaving the fuel filter alone on this OCI. Price is ridiculous locally and don’t really want to deal with waiting for a riff-Raff order to show up this time of year.

I'm at about 23,000 miles on the current filter and the post filter fuel pressure sensor is reading right about where it has since installing the filter.

It is hard to gauge or guess where I might see a decline in post filter pressure because that would be dependent on fuel quality and debris that may be in the tank or get into the tank. I usually use truck stop high flow pumps, but sometimes fill up at a small fuel stop.

The Ford service manual says 30 PSI is minimum "with full load on engine". In my mind, I should have plenty of time to source a new filter as the PSI is 60 - 62 PSI at full load with a clean filter. I have the OEM regulator and spring, no need to go higher PSI than that for my application.

If you have a FP gauge and the sensor is post filter, just use that as your change interval gauge. Know where normal is for PSI, and if it starts dropping during full load or even idle, look into replacing the filter. That is my advice and works well for my application.

Your application or methods may vary.

Interesting... I was changing my filter whenever I changed my oil (5k), now I do it every other change (10k). 15k just felt too long to me. I think I'll stretch it a bit. I can get good local filters for about $12 just the filament.
