To me it depends on the outer color . If you know for sure what color it's going outside then by all means paint the inside the same if that's what you prefer but if you are on the fence on the exact outside color ( as I am ) I am going with a completely different color . To me nothing looks worse that it looking like you tried to match it .
I welded up all my holes as well on the fire wall. If you are going with a Vintage Air AC system, don't weld up the big hole where the heater motor went through. Guess how I found that out.
As for engine bay colour, I am going body colour. in almost every car show I go to the ones that have black engine bays don't look as good as the body colour ones. If you want a more original look then black. JMHO
Weld up the holes , Get it cleaned up, Paint the firewall and inner fenders gloss black. The motor... paint it red to pull everything together with the body color. Then If you decide to do something else to the body down the road you'll still be in good shape, it looks like you're fond of red anyway. Today is Monday, this can easily be completed by Friday afternoon, Please send finished photos.
This is just my opinion but I'd at least carry the same color on the firewall. The theme you have going with the satin finish I'd be tempted to go with a satin black on the inner fenders then make the motor pop with a bright red and chrome accessories...I really like what you've done to that truck thus far..
Yes I also prefer body color but my problem is the amount of time between mechanical build and paint where I may not use the exact color I have picked now . And to me nothing looks worse than it looking like you tried to match a color . As my truck is going green I decided to use a factory ford heavily green pearled black Endura ( a very durable paint ) underhood that will work with any green I use outside .
It wasn't the skill I was worried about , in my case it's the exterior paint choice could change before the paint goes on the outside especially since I have pretty much decided to drive it unpainted for a while to make sure everything works the way I want it to . Right now I have 2 contenders no1 is a very nice waterbourne green with the advantages of excellent coverage , no toxic overspray and easily repairable - matchable . No. 2 a nicer HOK candy basecoat that the effect can be be changed with different bases and added pearls making it harder to duplicate or repair . PS I have talked myself into and out of both of them a number of times but my biggest fear is that I will see a color " I just have to use " before it gets painted .
I am in agreement, that body color looks the best. I definitely am not going shiny. It will be satin for sure.
How do you feel about red engine compartment, all black on the motor and accessory parts, with the same gold as the wheels on the valve covers and air cleaner? I thought I could add some vintage looking lettering as well? Just something simple and different. I am tired of looking at Ford Blue....haha

Sounds like you have a solid plan and the satin finish will compliment the exterior, I suggested gloss because I find it easer to clean up & maintain, but that's just me.
Awesome project! Thanks for all the detailed updates. This thread reminds me why I like FTE more than facebook groups....
.
Me too. I belong to several ford truck Facebook pages. Here I know and trust you. The knowledge here is amazing and I trust your knowledge and advice..... Facebook not so much.
I tell some select guys about FTE but I don't think they join.... Their loss.
