So, I have painted myself into a bit of a corner. I am getting back into my wiring project, and I just stumbled across a problem, that I KNEW better than to put myself into. I have no way to mount my Dakota dash control box, or my MSD box under the dash! I was smart enough to weld some tabs to the firewall for the fuse panel, before smoothing out and painting the engine compartment, but completely forgot about the other items that needed to be mounted under there. I would prefer not to thru-bolt them, because I am trying to keep a semi-clean appearance on the firewall. I know I have seen several pictures of brackets that guys have fabbed, just for this very reason. Unfortunately, I have been searching, and I can't find a single pic. If anyone has some input, it would be greatly appreciated.
John's right. I've seen guys use heavy duty velcro to mount things like the DD control box and similar lightweight items. Do you have enough room next to your fuse panel where you could cantilever a bracket off your fuse panel mount to attach the MSD box to? A piece of heavy sheet metal would do the trick.
I have used the industrial style Velcro in the past. It holds like crazy, but I have had issues with the adhesive holding, long term, on a hot firewall. I ended up building a bracket. Funny how forgetting to weld a couple studs in can cost you half a day worth of work. Luckily it's all mounted, and it's moving forward. Thank you for the suggestions!
Realized I haven't update this in a long time. The truck has been on the back burner for a bit. The motor is finally coming together, and just slipped into the truck this weekend. There are a few hiccups with packaging everything in, but I will get there. Headers are the Achilles heal at this point. I have tried a set of Hedman mid lengths for the Fox body mustangs. Left side fits mint, the the right side is a complete no go. I am going to order a couple sets of Sanderson's and cross my fingers. Until more progress happens, here is a quick pic
Made some progress this weekend. I did battle with a few sets of headers, and I was finally able to beat some into submission. It is still pretty tight, so I am hoping there will be enough clearance when the motor torques over. Time will tell on that one. I also clearanced the valve left valve cover, and got that welded back up. I was unable to install it, due to interference with the brake booster. I took a pretty good chunk out of it, but once installed it is barely noticeable. Last thing on my list was to upgrade the alternator. I tossed the old setup, for a newer 3g Ford alternator that puts out 130amps. Now was the perfect opportunity, before the wiring gets finalized. I may have to re-think the single belt pullies, but I will cross that bridge if they squeal like pigs...haha
Lastly, I shot some paint. I went with the same color that I used on the wheels, and I think it ties everything together nicely. I will apply the original 56 F100 valve cover decals, once it is up and running. Here are some pics. I'm open to suggestions if anyone sees something that I might be missing.
FINALLY got it back up and running. I ran into a few hiccups, and it still needs some parts and tuning, but I have put a handful of miles on it. I will need to break it in well, before bringing it to the dyno. Seat of the pants says, this thing is going to hurt some feelings at the Toyo tire factory!

Id be willing to fly out and work at the camp ground for free for one week if I can drive that truck while completing my chores. Id love to see the faces of the campers when I pulled up to to pick up garbage.
