Shocks?

Other than the Bilstein 5100 shock, are there other shocks that give the Excursion a plush "Cadillac" ride? Not literally Cadillac, but the old time description a lot of us used to say how great a ride it was.

As I understand it, the Bilsteins are a bit too firm for my taste, and a little bit "jarring" going over expansions joints and some slightly rough roads.

What are some Shocks for stock ride height Excursions that some of you like?

A RWD EX rides fairly smoothly. Mine still has the original shocks and rides really nice. I doubt a 4X4 could be made to ride as smooth.

Funny, I wish my EX was a 4X4. My dad bought the one I have new off the lot. I don't think I'll ever sell it though I've thought about selling it not long after I inherited it.

I have Monroe Gas-Matic LT on my truck. They were great for me. I think the Gas-Magnum would be fine too. I had Rancho 9000s on my last truck and they looked good but were too firm even on their lightest setting. I have heard good things about shocks from Accutune Offroad since they actually adjust the shocks for the vehicle, but you will be paying several hundred to a thousand dollars.

I’m on my fourth or fifth set of 4600 Bilsteins. They are pretty smooth. They match up well with a set of Michelin’s and adequate springs.

KYB Monomax. Can’t beat the ride for the money. I had a set go 100K too. Super ride and a good product IMHO.

I found the monomax to be a very firm shock when I put them on 6 months ago.

I'd like to get some plush smooth riding shocks.

Not wanting any that are stiff riding, or harsh over everyday bumps.

Anyone have some they really like a lot that fits that description?

It may prove difficult to make a SUV that was built from an old truck to not ride like an old truck, but we can always try right? I enjoyed my Rancho 9000s on my same vintage F250 I had previously. Since "ride" is a subjective term, the adjustability of the 9000s allowed me to dial it in the way I liked. They were particularly helpful when towing.....stiffen them up the rear to get rid of bouncing/porpoising. Their softest setting was smooth over the small stuff but underdamped for bigger bumps/rough road. Their hardest setting was harsh over the small stuff, but could soak up some big hits. I usually had them somewhere in the middle/ hard setting. I have a set of Bilstein 5100s and Procomp springs waiting to be installed. If they are too harsh or soft, I'll be going back to the Rancho 9000s.

Another vote for Bilstein 4600's. Just had a set installed about two months ago. For the first thousand miles they're a little on the stiff side, then they smooth right out. I had them on my last Excursion too. You can't go wrong with Bilsteins!
