I put regular Monroe-matics on mine and it rides like stock. Most hyped up overpriced shocks ride rough to give you the illusion they are doing something special. All shocks do is keep the truck from bouncing too much and that's exactly what mine do............and do it well.

Also, there must have been a management shift at Bilstein. They used to be the shock of choice. But over the past year or two there have been numerous threads about Bilstein denying warranty claims for little or no reason at all. Poor customer service and what appears to be a decline in product quality will have me looking elsewhere when its time to replace my Ranchos.

If you are towing heavy and/or seeing more than mild offroad, then you should consider a better...ie: more expensive shock.
Rock Auto has the Monroe shocks for your Excursion for $20 each for the base shock, and $30 for the "upgraded" shock. I'd get the $30 shocks and drive on happy. Plus, Monroe currently has a buy 4 get 1 rebate paid back sale. So you only have to pay for 3 ultimately.

I have to agree with Brent here. For a regular run of the mill truck that may see some mild off-road action, get some basic Monroe shocks.

I try at times
The 4 basic ($20) Monroe shocks I ordered last week for my Quad shock install showed up yesterday
I'm going to splurge and get some KYB's for the rear axle to account for the extra height my X has gotten from my DIY lift. I'm curious to see how the Quad shocks handle my 35's and the body roll.

The info is in my signature link. I did a new build thread for the X. Basically I installed F-250 leafs and did custom AAL
for the OP: Have you done any spring work on your Excursion? Does it sit at stock height still? or did you lift it any? From the factory, the Excursion sits 1" lower up front than a 99-04 F-250/350 does. The FRONT shocks for the Excursion are also 1" shorter. If you have done any spring work, I highly suggest you grab 99-04 spec'd F-250/350 shocks for the front. The are 1" longer fully extended.
For the back, the F-250/350 and the Excursion are identical shock wise
