Hello, I have a 97 F350 7.3 Powerstroke crew cab 2 WD dually, recently, the trans vent got clogged, and blew the front pump seal in the transmission. The transmission worked perfectly, but because I wasn't sure that was the problem, and it has 218K miles, I pulled it and had it rebuilt. I put it back in, and now it won't shift into 2nd gear till 3400 RPM, unless I lift off the throttle for about a second, then it USUALLY will drop into second, but sometimes it acts like it is about to, then kicks back into first, then I have to let off again to get it into second gear. The guy that rebuilt it thought it was a bad solenoid pack, so we put my old one back in, knowing it worked correctly, same thing! I checked the plug connections and they are good, on the RPS and speed sensor. The rest of the shift points seem to be OK, and the new converter locks up when it is suppose to, though this morning, when I left my house it did take a while for it to lock up. Could this be a bad accumulator spring in the valve body? I don't even want to think about pulling this trans again. I bought an automatic because I got a killer deal on the truck, and it has been a great truck for the last 10 months or so, but I HATE automatics, especially in trucks! Lol Would LOVE to trade it for a 5 or 6 speed crew cab 7.3 dually! Hope someone can shed some light on this problem, I'm losing money now because I don't want to haul anything with it like it is, my trans guy said to drive it for a few days to see if anything changes!
Yes, and I ran it through all the gears before putting it in park, and you have to remember, I had just installed the rebuilt trans with a new converter, so it took the specified 16 quarts.
Not too good with autos but fella on here had an issue a couple weeks ago with it going through gears way too early and he had to reset the TPS. Here’s a link
Did you get it fixed? I’m having the same problem and I really don’t want to rebuild the trans lol.
Try doing the KOEO test that is required after replacing the TPS sensor and checking the correct voltage values. Turn the key on but don't start the engine, and within 10 seconds slowly depress the accelerator to wide open throttle and release, then turn the key off. Do this 2 more times. This fixed my 1-2 intermittent no shift which persisted even after I replaced a shorted TPS and verified good voltage range. Still in disbelief that it was so hard to find that tiny piece of information. Unrelated but also worth mentioning it is a good idea to change the plugs, wires, rotor and cap as that can cause crazy issues and as a maintenance repair gets overlooked. Motorcraft stuff
