What is that rod with the broken seal? It appears to be not functioning properly because it just slides down and does not stay up. Thanks
Okay, cool, thank you! So is it functioning as it should? With the truck off and upon start up it just sits at the lowest point.
Note that the solenoid may not be strong enough to move the throttle lever by itself. It will however hold the throttle up if the pedal is tapped before starting (hence why the manual states to press the accelerator pedal before cranking).
It can be adjust by turning the rod to lengthen or shorten how far it sticks out when energized.

Is this advisable? I live in Southern California and I purchased and drove this truck from Truckee, Ca to my home. Truckee is far up north by Lake Tahoe. So my question is, should I mess with this rod?
Does your fast idle work like it should? If so let it be.
Like TG says, the solenoid isn't designed to lift the throttle, it just holds it in place. That's why when you first start the truck you turn the key "on", depress and release the throttle, then start the engine. It will keep your truck at high idle until it reaches temp then it kicks down.
It's an incredibly simple system and most likely works as long as the solenoid and the temp sensor are plugged in.

Check to see if it has 12v at it when the engine's cold, key on.
