"I look at everything from the mechanical point of view. Remember that the 5.3L is GM's old 305 smallblock,"

Hi txtrucker1!

Just thought I'd help you out with your facts a bit. The 5.3L was new from the ground up (generation III small block). The old 305 was a generation I. The two engines have nothing in common other than the fact that they are both Chevrolet's. Bore and strokes are different, heads are different, block is different, etc.

I could definately be wrong but i thought the 5.3 was the product of the 327 design, of course it was re-engineered from the ground up. Now i think the 305 SB was a 5.0.

I like the chevy gassers, but I'm now a Ford man cause of my PSD. Anyway the 5.3 is not weak in my opinion. Maybe i don't know what i'm talking about but honestly and without malice, i've never been impressed with ford gasser trucks performance wise. Durability and dependability you can't go wrong with the Ford or Chevy, Beware of dodge, Wife has a ram 1500, maintenance nightmare!!!

Nadda, Wrong

Hey,hey, ya'll be nice now. As a mechanic, I look at everything from the mechanical point of view. Remember that the 5.3L is GM's old 305 smallblock, which was never designed to be a truck engine. Works great in a Camaro (I have a '92 RS Camaro), doesn't work in a truck. About as good as a V-6 in a Chevy Shortbed. The 8.1L 496 Big-block is a different story. GM built that engine for two reasons. To compete with Dodge and Ford V-10s and to beat the Ford 7.5L 460 with the largest Big-block ever produced. The 8.1L is almost twice as big as the 5.3. Like comparing apples and oranges. Or in this case, it would be like putting the Ford 4.9L 300 EFI I-6 against the Ford 4-cylinder in a power contest. If you are going to argue , argue something that makes sense.

And another thing, don't talk about names making sense. GMC2500HD8.1496BigBlock tells exactly what the guy has: A GMC 2500HD 3/4-ton truck with an 8.1L EFI 496cid big block engine. That make sense.
But KTMGuy70 is a little harder to figure. My guess would be that you have a KTM dirt bike and another vehicle that is a 1970 model(probably a Ford truck, since you are in a Ford truck Forum) But a non-motorcross person would have trouble figuring that out.
Now don't think that I am trying to insult anyone here, cause I'm not. I just want to prove a point that you should think about what you say when you are defending something, otherwise you make yourself and everyone else in here look bad.
Your Right about the KTM, but its the EXC, not the SX. Having wridden for 30 Years, I find what I like and Stick with it, BIKE wise.
As for thinking about what Im saying, I thought about it plenty!
I have no problems with a GM person coming in here and offering constructive criticism about a Ford vehicle, Heck I do it myself from time to time. But when Someone who OWNS SOLEY a GM Vehicle, or at least doesnt mention owning a ford vehicle, to come in here, and basically say " my trucks faster than yours" and leave.. Well must be another 14 year old who probably doesnt own a truck of any make for that matter. It's People Like THAT that shouldnt be in here, So yup I thought about what I said, and held alot of it back!

I don't have a problem with GM and Dodgie guys coming in here either. However, constructive criticism is still criticism and I don't like it.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think there is a little bit too much aluminum in the new chevy V-8's, and if they overheat once they are done! If you must drive a chevy go back to iron 350 - 454's. Or if you really want to put a grin on your face.....buy a ford!!
